So what you're saying is Lou was handed a contender built on ELCs and team friendly contracts and basically sat on his ass instead of finding efficient finishing touches with all that cap room and second round picks to trade? Very poor showing by Lou to top this 105 point team off.

Lou did more harm than good to the Leafs and the poor Islanders are suffering the same fate now. It's just being masked by their two covid cup runs.

It's the same story there as it was here. Past management assembled majority of the team. I'm not crediting anyone for Matthews , you or me could roll out of bed and go make that selection for them.

Lou was handed a last place team IIRC. Either way Kyle got it better than most new GMs. Sure it could have been better if Hunter's drafts were better but you can't have your cake and eat it.

Lou actually did a perfect job with the tank and tearing it down. Trading of Phaneuf without retention was a strong move. Turning Polak into multiple 2nd round picks was also a fantastic move.

He came in and implemented a culture when the organization was an absolute disaster. He was very good at that portion of the job.

Where he wasn't so good was building it back up. Wasting assets on Plekanec and Boyle. Signing Marleau to a contract that was so obviously bad from day 1 for having that third year.

Marking him on his teardown though, he gets an A+. With landing the 1st overall pick as the cherry on top.

Smart enough to take Marner when Shanny's chosen coach wanted Hanafin.
If you love the Dube you can't credit Lou Lam for anything . You can't be half way in with your love, it's all or nothing.

The most Lou did to help this team was bringing in Andersen and drafting Matthews, a pick any moron could’ve made. Besides that 90% of that team that elevated to playoff status was already here.

I always find the "culture" argument interesting. He oversaw and did nothing about a coach doing what he did with Marner. Apart from the Mattingly-esque "no sideburns", it would be neat to see folks elaborate on this great culture shift. Is it just moving Dion?

I didn't intend to mean that he was perfect.

By culture I meant more so in terms of structure. There were rules in place.

Year prior had been a shit show. The new rules brought a sense of calm. He wasn't perfect but my feeling is that he definitely cleaned the place up.

Yeah but apart from trading Dion and "no facial hair", I'm still left wondering?

Masterful how he landed Matthews.
Yep. We could have landed both McD and AM if Lou was our GM the year before, lol.
Ofcourse, we would not have MM on the team and we need to constantly defend McD being the best player in the league against all other fans.

I think the culture should include the cone of silence and setting a nee standard with TO media. Maybe bc of Phil, Dion and salute gate but I do find the TO media is not as tough(being dicheads) to Leafs and Leafs players now than before even after they choke away a 3-1 series lead.
Like when someone threw a jersey on the ice beginning of the season, the TO media really did not make a big deal about it

Cone of silence is a good one.

Kadri with 1G 3A tonight. 19 points he's in the top 15 in scoring

Miss having him here

23pts in 15GP for Kadri, 4th in league scoring.

That trade hurts. As much of a loose cannon as he is, not experimenting with him as a top 6 LW was such a head scratcher in hindsight.

He is on a major bender against the worst teams in the league: 12 points in his last 4 games against Seattle, Vancouver, Ottawa, and San Jose. Same reason why Colorado has taken themselves out of the subpar category after a bad start. 4 points against Columbus in 2 games. 2 points against Chicago... It's great he is putting up big points against some of the worst defenses/teams in the league, but not when you are held scoreless and outplayed against the good teams, which is also the case.

Also keep in mind that he is playing Matthews' minutes most nights (especially with MacKinnon out), and he would never get that here. If he got more than 16 minutes a night, or top PP time, here I would be surprised.

Once Kadri and Colorado start playing teams that are likely heading to the playoffs again, we will see if their (and Kadri's) performances can keep up, or if they are going to continue to struggle like they did earlier in the season. At least MacKinnon should be back and healthy.
