The failures he endured were not because of his overpayments, ego and thinking he is the best GM ever to walk this earth.

Also, Sakic is the same guy who said his core isnt getting it done, dealt ROR, Duchene and others to retool and get back it.

Sakic is not a moron.

The worthwhile thing is looking at context and things that happened under sakic instead of just saying "look how long sakic has been there"

do you guys ever get tired of defending dubas? I mean seriously

defending Dubas? It’s a valid point, I’m not the one spewing childish hyperbole.

Sakic was a failure at a similar point as Dubas in terms of years on the job. Sakic even missed the playoffs for 3 straight years before even considering changing his core. He also went through 3 straight 2nd round exits despite being favourites. And had the same coach.

Changing the core is looking like the right move 4 years later. He made the right moves to get them to this point.

So the hindsight being used right now is silly.

basically what you are saying is stick with dubas no matter how much the leafs suck right? because eventually leafs are gonna get it done so 10 years from now you can say look how good dubas is?

what you are calling "hindsight" should be lesson learned on how to approach team building and not make claims in media about "we can and we will" or "keefe is going to be one of the greatest coach ever" or pretend that they lost in game 7 of SCF "we are close"

these are not the quotes you would associate with sakic.

childish hyperbole you say? sure... it seems like when a point is refuted other one is a "childish hyperbole"

No doubt. Sakic gets too much credit around here

But to fairness, all his losses came to Stanly cup finalists in San Jose, Predators, Dallas and Vegas
They played some really strong teams

I don't know if they had blown any series to bitter rival being up 3-1 . Maybe you can correct me
Also are they 0-5 in clinching games last 2 years?

Body of work here is not the same in my opinion

Sakic's team is in the finals
Yzerman team that he build with the core with is in the finals

But what do they know. it's a mere coincedence they both played hockey at a high level and in the same team back in 2002..... and many all stars....... and many stanly cup finals.... against each other

I mean they are just lucky..... Dubas is the man.... Gets a GM role without even doing anything. That's how good he is at stuff

unfortunately shanahan is not as smart as those two.

Tell us then, without opinion, what has Sakic won in his 9 years as GM?

I expect Sakic team to be very skilled. I expect Yzerman team to be resilient. which they are
I expect Shanahan team to be rough and competetiive.......>WTF happend here?

They didn't win much but they went to conference finals and won few rounds
This is still Stanly Cup, only 1 team wins it every year.

But they have shown progress few seasons. Some were really bad.
We have stayed in the same place every season....> Round 1

i told you before context matters!

did sakic inherit a team on the rise, with plenty of cap space, plenty of assets.

did he sit on his butt when the team wasn't achieving anything or did he trade the core and retool?
(Rantanen, Makar, Girard, Byram)

Did Sakic make claims in media?

It is just frustrated posting in leafs forum. everytime someone says anything about dubas they get jumped by everyone

Shanahan is a snake oil salesman. Ask Craig Janney.
Why would you hire the head of player safety? They're just there to screw the Leafs anyway.
Who is next in line Parros?

Sakic took 5 years to get to the 2nd. round.

May 2013 Sakic took control.
May 2019 Sakic's team made the 2nd. round.

And as everyone talked about here earlier, making the conference finals isn't important, remember the Oilers making the conference finals this year wasn't important?

Losing their number one goalie to injury didn't help matters along.

I believe that happened several times.

No I’m not saying they should just stick with Dubas. I’ve always maintained that the idea that as long as he shows willingness to adapt and adjust that it deserves some merit in keeping him. IMO he’s used his big bullets in the coach he wants, he’s reshaped the blue line, re-assorted the depth, and such she’s the goaltending. He’s made sensible moves along the way.. Him running back the core is my concern. I was open last year and am more now to making that move but I get the circumstances as to why they wouldn’t make that move. Goaltending is another one but more of a wild card. IMO taking a stand with his core and not trading one may be the biggest mistake if they continue to fail. But i don’t know if that’s the right move. So time will tell.

Yes. None of that is important. Losing to game 7 to stanly cup winners is better than going to conference finals

I'll add this though. Sakic took over a team that was rebuilding. He drafted Nathan and so on
Dubas took on a team that had all the key players already drafted and played few seasons

One's 5 year isn't like other's 5 years
