I’m sure it’s great when they’re winning. I wonder if they’ll stick around for the hard times.
If they become a terrible franchise, a la the Leafs, they’d naturally suffer and die. But they’ve built a fanbase and should be able to withstand a few down yrs.
Nashville and Tampa are two cities I spend a lot of time around and the NHL is now mainstream.

This game isn’t even remotely competitive or fun to watch. Same with the WCF (though watching the Oilers lose is satisfying).

These playoffs have been very underwhelming imo. Not even the battle of Alberta had much intensity. I guess this is the end product of that awesome divisional playoff format Gary wanted so bad.
Agreed. I actually think the sport is dying. I’ve noticed over the past few yrs even the opening weeks in October were terribly boring where they used to be so exciting before the coaches clamped down.

When things get tough, Tampa always shows up. That's what makes them champions.
They're all willing sacrifice. But they look like they’re out of gas.

There's no place like home right now in this ECF. Tampa will obviously have to break that trend at least once in order to make yet another SCF.

Those two games Tampa gave away early in the playoffs probably won’t cost them, but it sure is symptom of what’s ailing them.

I mean, that's not what I'm saying. I'm asking the question, because there seems to be a lot of flip-flopping about what getting to a later round in the playoffs means.
Losing in the first round means you're one of the first to lose. There is 31 losers every season.

Sorry Kyle leave that stuff for baseball. Analytics mean nothing. It works in baseball that's it.

If Tampa wins, its finally one of those years you feel the 2 top teams in the league are playing each other in the finals.

Shame the leafs had to play this juggernaut in the first round.

It's also no coincidence that the year where the Leafs clearly set out to play that famous "playoffs hockey" the refs suddenly do an extreme crackdown, resulting in the most skilled teams going deep finally.

Analytics work basically in every aspect of life someway. Hockey isn't anomaly. It can be argued is possession the stat you should follow or concentrate. Problem with eye test is that you can decide what you see and what you don't. Numbers help you to guide and adjust your vision. You can't base solely on those either.

Found it quite funny last night when Ranger player takes down Lightning player virtually at the feet of the ref in the Rangers corner. Said ref did not make a call but the other ref standing in the neutral zone called a penalty.

They do work in some instances in hockey like for puck possession. I don't believe in the expected goals or saves stat.

Well, technically, 16 of those 31 losers are eliminated before the 1st round even starts. Losing in the first round means that you lasted anywhere from 9th to 16th longest.

But the point was more centered around what lasting longer actually means about the team.

The Leafs would just being the last to lose. IMO no teams left are on the same level as the Avs. They are 12-2 in the playoffs.

AVs have yet to face a defense with a top 4 as good as Tampa's and a goalie as good as Vasi.

When it comes to goaltending, it will be men (Vasi, Shesterkin) against boys (Kuemper, Francouz).
