But on the other I think this run may have purchased them a new deal from McDavid when it’s time.

But Draisaitl, I don’t know…he clearly does not like how persistent the media is up there. If he goes would McDavid stay?

Neither player will re-sign there, I’d bet the house on it. Their inept management group have had ample time to convince the pair they know what they’re doing and have failed. So much negative value accrued and immovable cap space.

McDavid looks downright miserable at times, Draisaitl is fed up with media. This fraudulent playoff run does not change anything in the long run.

McDavid strikes me as an ‘aw shucks…’ Canadian boy who can’t stand to be hated. But of course he has three years left and I can see him turning quickly if Edmonton misses the playoffs.

Drai strikes me as more of an individualist who will do what’s best for Leon Draisaitl (an individualistic German, I know, I just said it). He’d probably be much happier in a smaller market where he gets paid a ton but can live his life. His deal expires a year earlier and he’s gonna want at least 11.5.

But both of them I think realize that there will be no cup winning happening there, but the media spotlight will always be blinding.

At this point McDavid’s priority should be winning, not his image. It’s blank cheque season in 3 years wherever he goes when he can pick and choose his destination.

McDavid screwed up by extending in Edmonton for 8 years, I don’t see him making that mistake again.

Call me crazy, but if the oilers missed the playoffs as they were projecting to back in January, I think there’s a good chance one of McDrai make noise about a trade.

Because you can admire other team's success and not like your own team?

I admire Edmonton's success, not their team. I wish I was one of the 20000 fans outside celebreting a victory. A series win. But I absolutely hate that team and I love the Leafs

I also admire how Boston has found a way to be competitive for last 12 years, how Rangers found a way to go conference finals with a change of their coaching staff, not to mention Islanders.... Despite of them missing out playoffs this year, they have still played more games last 3 years in playoffs than our beloved leafs

I think that's the part most people here forgetting. Nobody here really likes Edmonton or the Habs. But man do I envy their success, however, they got it. Call it fluke, horseshoe, whatever.

I absolutely love the leafs but that won't me from criticizing them. This is an organization thats too busy looking good then being good

As long as you realize you've completely redefined what the word "success" means in hockey.

Isn’t that what you’ve done, losing every year doesn’t even matter, rationalizing is the game here every off season. I mean your avatar is a triumphant game 5 win for a series we lost, it‘s such a perfect representation of how some have lost the “success” plot.

Back to thoroughly enjoying my summer….

I've never claimed the Leafs have been successful tho.

Nurse
Keith
Barrie
Ceci
Bouchard
Kulak
Russell

I wouldn't want any of these D in a Leaf uniform. Nurse maybe but definitely not with that cap hit. That coupled with needing 2 new goalies makes Edmonton's "next step" more like the Olympic Long Jump than a mere "step"

I really think Dubas should look at Kane and somehow manage to fit him under cap. That kid did wonders for Edmonton but he will demand some $$$.

Edmonton have won 6 rounds since the last time Toronto won 1 in 2004. We the Leafs fans have no rights to talk about Edmonton accomplished nothing in the playoffs.
f*** I really misunderstood the goal of this league. I thought it was winning Stanley Cup and even though Edmonton have won some rounds (they also arguably the best individual in the league), they are still pretty far from building real contending team.

McDavid was different beast this year, but Matthews and Marner actually had a higher goal differential at even strength these playoffs than Drai. (Also a higher shot and expected goal differential).

We need to do something about the powerplay though. This was 3 seasons in a row the PP has just dried up in the playoffs.
It is real puzzling to me that we changed our PP a bit and scored a goal. Right after that we switched it back. We are skilled enough, that we should few variations.

I love Boston having three best forward deals in this league and still f***in up their build that they didn't won any cups during those contracts. Sweeney underpaid Bergeron, Marchand and Pastrnak. Chara and Rask contracts were okay too, but they couldn't do anything with their draft picks or sign any meaningful core pieces outside of McAvoy.

Also tells something about how easy it is to get those core players even with perfect cap structure. Hopefully get into that no mans land we were for years. Drafting 6th-10th and hanging on playoff spot few months before burning out.

You are talking like the Leafs have some real achievements to their record book so we can look down other teams like that.

LMAO

And who thinks that?
I mean, it would be pretty ridiculous to think losing in later round = better team (which would have made Montreal the 2nd best team in the league), but we've surprisingly seen that position quite a bit over the last half-dozen pages. In fact, you might want to look back on your own posts...

Noting, it's being reported that Bergeron is retiring, and Boston looking at trading Pastrnak this summer. They are done.

Edmonton getting swapped was never in doubt, just don't have the horses and lucked in to some playoff matchups getting as far as they did. They'll probably be worse next year.

Might finally be the Avs year, sad that Kadri won't be playing in the finals.

Sounds like they’re going to try and tank hard for one of the Big 3 in the 2023 draft.
It certainly sounds like that.

You have to wonder what guys like Hall, Lindholm (who just extended long-term), even Marchand are thinking too. There could be a lot of movement this summer.

It's not a matter of looking down, it's whether you're an optimistic Leaf fan or a forever pessimistic Leaf fan. The Leafs accomplishments of the past 6 years are relegated to better regular season results, individual scoring records. Matthews and Marner are setting new Leaf records frequently. We had more points during this season than any other Leaf team in history. These are actual accomplishments but they just haven't translated into play off series wins - yet. So you decide to mock while others like myself, chose to wait and be patient and see if this team (statistically the BEST Leaf team) will actually get it done in the PO. I like our team way better than 25 other NHL teams, and equal or within range of the other 6. As a 50+ year fan, that's better than most years.

The idiocy of the Ferguson/Burke/Nonis years are just too fresh in my memory to be complaining about what's going on now.

Exactly this lol.

The blatantly obvious hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a butter knife.

I think it was Mike Peca who said that one of his teammates said that E. Kane was the worst teammate he has ever had. Million dollar talent. 50 cent brain. Even so Leafs probably do not want another player who will be suspended and cost them a series.

The CBC panel was saying that Makar is the best dman since Bobby Orr. If that is true, the Avs will probably win 3 or 4 cups in the next 10 years.

The Flyers selected Nolan Patrick over this guy. That is rightfully a fireable offense (Hextall was GM I believe).

Oilers fans are so pathetic.

Even the score app and Sportsnet are making fun of the Oilers:laugh:

HFOil has a thread to boycott Bell and Rogers.

Good luck with that.
