The Avs made the playoffs in 2010. They thought they'd be competitive just like the leafs after that initial stretch. Also the same thing in 2014 with Mack. They were looking to buy, trading the Forsberg pick to the Caps (wasn't 12th when dealt but still) to get Varlamov.

Leafs and Avs both misread and had poor drafting, developing and overall maangment

The Avs rebuild began properly in 2015 again with Rantanen a year after ours.

No? Not at all. You are mistaking getting a high puck with a rebuilding policy.

The leafs specifically brought Burke In to not rebuild. He sold picks. And brought in vet UFAs. They weren’t rebuilding when they bottomed out in 2012. Either were the habs. When they got galch

The leafs started to rebuild in 2015. It’s is known.

Colorado tried to start rebuilding in 2009. They tried to compete started selling picks and building up.

Just because it took longer doesn’t mean that’s when it started.

The avs entered another rebuild. It went super quick due to the brilliant Ducheme deal where they got a Matthews level player in Makar which made them OP.

2015 to 2017 (Rantanen/Jost/Makar) was their 2014 to 2016 (88/16/34)

They sold RoR and Duchene with the believe rebuild 2.0 would take longer than 1.0.

Mack breaking out to a top 5 player plus getting Makar and Rantanen fixed their core.

Then they made buy moves since 2020 (Kadri, burakovsky, Toews)

They demanded it. They were actively trying to make the playoffs.

You don’t just enter into “another re build” every time you trade.

Is Buffalo in a “new super quick rebuild” because they traded eichel?

Or did they enter a new one when they traded o rielly? What about Kane?

All this series makes clear to me is the Leafs needs a goalie.

NY up 3-1 and still taking chances because they know their goalie can make a save.

Did anyone truly feel comfortable with Campbell winning the game when we were up in Game 6/G6 OT/G7?

The team stops pressuring when we're up because we got a backup goalie in net.
Shesterkin isn't a goalie but the McDavid of goalies

He's going to be winning vezinas for the better part of the 2020s

To get that type of core player we'd need to move one of the core 4 and get luckt with drafting

Yeah, we don't need Shesterkin. We need a mentally strong starting goalie.

Campbell is 0-5 in elimination games, 4 of which the Leafs dominated.

It also makes you wonder how Tampa barely gets any PP's when they're playing a big market NY team... yet in the Toronto series they got 3 straight 2 man advantages on bad calls

Maybe the Rangers just break Tampa Bay well and good and we don't have to hear about their championship DNA next year. So much mileage on that team.
I'll take it, also I think it shows management that this team was beatable and we should have gotten the job done. No moral victories, this was our series for the taking

Yea the Sabres current rebuild us diff than the Eichel/Reinhart/Risto one.

The Sabres are a failure like no other tbh when it comes to rebuilding

They've drafted so many crap picks. 2016/2017 both wasted years

I think you have a personal definition of a rebuild that does not match any of the general consensus.

Which is i guess is
Your right but it’s really not apples to apples comparison

Andersen also couldn't close things tbf.

How do we judhe/evaluate a mentally strong goalie? How can we afford to acquire on?

Goalies with clutch reps are usually overpaid and not worth it unless they play on a team that's gives a lot of shots so they can play hero hockey and bail them out (Price, Lunqvist in his prime)

Leafs play pretty solid defense until they have a few breakdowns which Gove bad looks that the goalies can't save.

I don't know which goalie would work in Toronto Market

It needs to be a veteran goalie that can still play.

Honestly, I would prefer Lehhner. Our goalie situation is f'ed with Mrazek making 3.8M, he's like an Andersen light with a longer contract.
