That's a different era and different rebuild that Burke botched by ending it prematurely with the Kessel trade. The rebuild we're talking about here happened when Fletcher was hired to clean out the house and Shanaplan came aboard to really get it started. That's when we drafted our core that folks expected to possibly turn into a dynasty.
So why are the Avs getting their old core players lumped in as the start of their rebuild?

Avs got Rantanen (superstar) /Jost (bust) / Makar (Matthews tier player) in 2015 to 2017 so shouldn't that be when they began their rebuild?

The old core was moved in Ror/Stastny/Duchesne with only Landeskog and Mack kept

Similar to us we kept Rielly and Kadri only and added 88/16/34 from 2014 to 2016.

Tampa also got a new core but that was through elite drafting/trades rather than bottoming out after the 2008-2013 period

They had kucherov, palat, TJ, Sergachev added after they finished their first rebuild which ended up flopping.

Because when the team starts selling off and makes a consistent plan to rebuild is when it happens.

There are plenty of teams that have a one off bad year. It’s not the same as taking it down to the studs. That’s what a rebuild is.

Toronto was “going” to rebuild in 2008. They tried to trade their players to tank. The players all refused (Muskoka 5).

The leafs refused to rebuild n and brought in Burke who traded the firsts and signed a bunch of players. Traded for phanuf and made the playoffs jn 2013.

Not the same. The entire conversation in leaf land was how they refused to bottom out to rebuild. They started it jn 2015. After shannahan came in and decided to sell off and rebuild.

Colorado tanked from 2009-13. Then they tried to compete and traded firsts for varlamov.

They were still bad for longer. They only got makar because it was Ottawa pick.

The Avs made the playoffs in 2010. They thought they'd be competitive just like the leafs after that initial stretch. Also the same thing in 2014 with Mack. They were looking to buy, trading the Forsberg pick to the Caps (wasn't 12th when dealt but still) to get Varlamov.

Leafs and Avs both misread and had poor drafting, developing and overall maangment

The Avs rebuild began properly in 2015 again with Rantanen a year after ours.

All this series makes clear to me is the Leafs needs a goalie.

NY up 3-1 and still taking chances because they know their goalie can make a save.

Did anyone truly feel comfortable with Campbell winning the game when we were up in Game 6/G6 OT/G7?

The team stops pressuring when we're up because we got a backup goalie in net.

I predicted Rangers to win the first 2 and Tampa to win the next 4 so it's technically following what I thought

But damn I don't know....I expected TB to be better than this, especially during game 2. They're getting outplayed and Igor is an amazing equalizer in net

Colorado is actually a rebuild on top of a rebuild. Their Duchene, O'Reilly, Barrie, Varlamov, Stastny, Johnson era face planted, they rolled into the Mackinnon Roy era, which also face planted, and then they scooped up Rantanen and Makar as we were entering our rebuild. Plus cashed out on their previous core and lucked into Kadri and Toews in the process.

Maybe the Rangers just break Tampa Bay well and good and we don't have to hear about their championship DNA next year. So much mileage on that team.

At least they got something for a number of those guys. We let all of ours walk. Not saying keeping them as “own rentals’ was the wrong move at the time, but we have not much to show for all that depth
