So, in 2017 draft, Dallas got Heiskanen, Oetinger, and Robertson.

We have only Comtois, looks like nobody else will play in the NHL. To be fair, all abovementioned Dallas players were picked before Comtois, who was our highest pick. But still, that draft could of gone better for us.

PS
Wasn't that meant to be a weak draft? There are plenty of NHL regulars in first couple of rounds and a bit of them in lower rounds as well.

People always say that this and this draft is weak too soon. Maybe the first two picks in 2017 weren't great first and second overalls, but I don't think the ranks matter in the end when there are guys like Makar, Heiskanen, Robertson etc. who have emerged and who could challenge top 5 picks from other drafts. 2017 was a quality year and has produced plenty of great players and more will rise in time. It's weird how confident people are when they announce that a draft is a weak one. I guess it's cool to make a bold guess that turns out right.

Absolutely. I think this draft as well, while might be lacking in top end talent as far as the pre-draft hype goes, has a decent depth and I'm excited to see who we pick with our fairly high picks

Typically when people say a draft is “weak,” they really just mean that there is no obvious superstar/top tier of players in it. People rarely bother to compare the rest of the players available. It’s very lazy, but it has unfortunately caught on.

Yep. And it usually means that only the top picks are underwhelming but others can get a gem (like in 2017).

Here comes Trotz

I read/heard somewhere that Trotz was looking for something potentially in management. Trotz in Vegas feels like an odd fit to me. That said, it wouldn't be surprising since we know Vegas always nabs the hottest item on the street.

anyone else feel like quenneville ends up in vegas?

I do. Trotz would just be more of the same as Deboer systems wise, which I didn't have a problem with but a large portion of the fanbase did.

Q is a POS but so are the guys in charge in Vegas so he'd fit in. All that matters is winning and money in that order.

2017 had the worst #1 overall and #2 overall since I can remember.

Hirschier had nearly identical stats this season to Zegras but Zegras is 2 years younger. So based on how Zegras projects to be he'll be better than both the 1st and 2nd overall in 2017.
When Zegras is Hirschiers age he'll possibly have a 82 point season.

That said, 2017 4th overall Makar is possibly a generational Dman already.

Hischier is really good defensively though and has been good in his own end since the day he entered the league. He doesn’t project to be an offensive dynamo but his two way game makes him more valuable than players who produce more.

That seems like a natural fit to me. That roster isn't perfect, but they seem to have been underachieving for a bit. If Trotz signs there and Cheveldayoff makes some tweaks, I can easily see them back in the playoffs next year.

blake did a good job acquiring vets to make LA a playoff contender again after they tried doing the whole "youth movement" thing the previous few seasons and it didn't sit well with the core guys

it'll be interesting to see what they do in the offseason. do they bring in more vets or hope their young talent takes that next step

What are they! I don't get them.

Zegras > Byfield
McTavish > Turcotte
From what ive noticed Blake drafts are mostly all a bunch of consensus BPA picks.

The Kings don't pull any McTavishes, Seiders or Hampus Lindholms, it's always the picks that armchair GMs like that leads to them getting alot of praise.
I remember wanting Turcotte more than Zegras, good thing I'm not a scout.

I think Yzerman probably would have taken Stuztle if he had the #2 pick, just a hunch.

I was also a big Turcotte guy. I loved everyone from that USA team. His injuries are so unfortunate.

I feel like Byfields age + raw stats/skill was too hard to pass up on. He still isnt even 20 yet.

But ya Turcotte has been massively disappointing.... i feel like hes going to be a similar player to Lundy.... dont think he comes anywhere near McTavish

Byfield i still think will pan out, but i dont think hell be as good as stutzle/zegras

Then you got
Clarke Vs Drysdale or Zellweger if you are feeling extra spicey and want to piss off king fans.
