Kings coach Darryl Sutter after the game: “He’s the best goalie I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe we got one by him tonight. Lot of pressure on him now. A lot of pressure.”
possibly my fav DS quote ever.

Kesler just never recovered by that dirty Richards' hit in the 2012 playoffs. My buddy is a Ducks fan and sent me an article about Ryan Kesler. He basically played with pain and his hip joint deteriorated to the point that he basically didn't have a hip or ***cheek because there was no bone there.
$92m will do far more for Karlsson than any Cup victory could ever do. However, you also have to always remember you're in a hard cap league if you care about winning. Only a very few can have both.
Also have to keep in mind that the players didn't want the cap. You used to be able to trade the high price guy who didn't want to be part of a rebuild.
If the next CBA does away with the guaranteed aspects of an 8-year contract, maybe players will be less enthusiastic about signing them. Then the owners and players will have to come up with realistic terms on the length of contracts and their annual salaries.
The hard cap stays.
I want nothing to do with the NBA model and super teams. The NFL model may work.I was hoping for something like the NFL system where not all the money on a long term deal was guaranteed money, or like the NBA with team/ player options to renew after a few seasons.

I don't think you'll ever see option contracts again and though K17 and I very much agree on non-guaranteed contracts I'm about 99.5% sure that'll never happen.
Agree that there may be more wiggle room around UFA sooner in exchange for something else pretty big, but despite all evidence to the contrary as it plays out, the owner's side never seems very determined to save GMs from themselves.
And yeah NHL is MUCH closer in team structure to the NFL than the NBA.
i agree in principle but i also feel like it's always the next GM that gets hamstrung by the bad contracts, while the guy who signed it walks free at his next job. the GMs always gonna hand out the max contract cause he's unlikely to have to deal with the repurcussions if it goes south and making the signing is good for his job tooNHL should just keep the current model. Leave it alone for a while, they keep changing shit.
If a team signs a bad deal then they should have to feel the repercussions from it, likewise if they get a guy locked in at a bargain.

The old "tumbleweed" the memes on that were amazing after he pulled that.

If I’m a player, guarantee’d contracts are the hill I die on. Can you imagine being Scott Walker if he couldn’t return this year? Years in the minors, finally gets his chance, face broke, good luck in your next life.
Oh I absolutely get it and agree. Just saying from an ownership perspective that's also every problem solved
Looks like Sutter has rejuvenated the Flames.
This also happened. Some Alberta justice.
this is actually pretty interesting for our playoff chances. the majority of our games remaining are against non-playoff teams. 16 games remaining against san jose, anaheim, and arizona, and only 11 games remaining against vegas, colorado, and st. louis.
