The slope only gets steeper from here. :)

I just cant for the life of me understand how people ignore that a defenseman is suppose to defend first, second and third.. offense is a bonus.. Karlsson is and has always been an offensive specialist! he's the DH of defenseman

That was more for @Herby being in his late 30's. Having experienced it already I was just trying to let him know if he thinks getting older is bad now, the decline only accelerates from there. Not exactly true, just a friendly reminder that no one beats father time.

They sold their soul.. Pavs and now they're back to being talented without heart

Pavelski was huge for their PP. I think the Sharks powerplay will struggle despite some serious fire power and will be a key story line. Although their PP did do well against vegas in the playoffs last year without Pavelski so who knows.

What... are you telling me that a Norris trophy winning, highest paid defenseman earning, gretaest defender since Lidstrom is actually suppose to defend???
You're crazy man...
I know thinking a defenseman should play a little defense is a new idea! Maybe they should just list him as a Rover and let him just state all over. Bring on the 3-1-1 format! Just keep all sharp objects away from Martin Jones. His Save Pct will be in the 700s.

It’s one game, folks. Put your Jump-To-Conclusions Mat away for a week or two huh? Karlsson didn’t forget how to play hockey over the summer.

It's two years going on a third now, though.

Likely injury induced--see Carter--but it's still not looking good.

He is a notorious slow starter though and has the extra gravity of his child's birth after their last tragedy so plenty of time for things to play out.

Ehh, I think I might be the biggest Karlsson fan on this board, and I still to this day don't understand why he is so hated on this board (is it the Doughty thing?). But I think it's fair to suggest he may be on a very steep decline, he is really nowhere close to the same player he was in 2017. No disputing he is an all-time great, first ballot HOF type guy, but since 2018 he really hasn't looked anything close to that type of player. The problem is the Sharks are paying him to be that player for the next eight seasons.

It's not hatred, though. We're still talking about the cream of the crop. It's all relative. The guy has always bled goals against and that continued on to another strong team even despite the presence of a literal shutdown pairing to insulate him from it.

There's a reason that every year of his career (except one--a norris year, naturally) sees him amongst the bottom of the team's on-ice save percentages and after a decade it's not just blind bad luck that goalies forget how to play with him on the ice.

I vaguely recall Bob McKenzie describing that trade in one of his podcasts, basically how the offer was at a standstill until the Rangers brought up Miller/Namestnikov being brought into it. Yzerman probably had a sense that Namestnikov had a bloated point total with the guys he got to play with.

I had arguments with one beer league friend who was certain that Namestnikov+20th overall+something small could get the Rangers back into the top 10 of the draft. So at least I was proven correct with regards to Namestnikov's value. Unfortunately the Rangers were able to land Jacob Trouba for not much more than that package.

Screw the Pens they're already tanking for the first overall. Bet on it they gonna get it too. Just like Crosby all over again. :shakehead

To be fair... the Crosby draft happened after the lockout and draft position was determined based on the three seasons prior so they weren't exactly "tanking" one year to get him. They were just bad.

I'm not thinking that deep I can care less I'm just having a little fun. Hate the Pens and their fans and city. ETC.

with exactly what cap space? or is this another doug wilson special where his cap hit is $40 but he gets a brown paper bag in his locker with $50k after every game

SJ also doesn't have their 2020 1st round pick... :sarcasm:
