Dimitri Filipovic with ESPN released an article a couple of days ago ranking the defensemen groups in the NHL and he had the Sharks at number 2. I thought it was ridiculous before the season, but this home and home with the Knights has made that ranking look atrocious.

I have mixed emotions.

On the one hand, it's great seeing the sharks getting beaten like a drum at band practice. On the other, it's the knights doing it.

EK earning that -4 tonight.

That punk ass may be rich (and have a hot wife) but his defensive game is finally being exposed for it is.

On Schenn, it's not the dollars, it's the term. But the teams have no back bone, and part of it is because they know all it takes is one idiot GM to throw 8 years at him and they lose him in their championship window. Only way this is going to be resolved is through the CBA and getting the contracts down to 5-6 years.

On Karlsson, he looks cooked. He didn't look good last year and last night is a terrible sign for his prospects this season. It's pretty crazy how quick these fall offs happen. I'm in my late 30's and in his prime he was the third best defenseman I've seen after Lidstrom and Bourque. I know people bring up the defensive shortcomings but I think people DRASTICALLY undervalue his ability to carry the puck out of the defensive zone, through the neutral zone and generate offense. I don't think there would have been a single player in the league that could have gotten that Ottawa team to within 1 goal of the SC finals. It's unreal to see him fall so far.

I think Injuries finally caught up with him, he has to now change his game cause he can't rely on the blazing speed he use to have.

EK has to get smarter with the Puck.

It's why I am not worried about Drew Doughty losing a step in his later years, Drew is a hockey Savant with his IQ.

With Burns and Karlsson, the Sharks have scored fewer goals in their three games than the Kings did in one game. Oof.

Drew put 100% of his IQ towards hockey, thankfully.

It’s one game, folks. Put your Jump-To-Conclusions Mat away for a week or two huh? Karlsson didn’t forget how to play hockey over the summer.

Ehh, I think I might be the biggest Karlsson fan on this board, and I still to this day don't understand why he is so hated on this board (is it the Doughty thing?). But I think it's fair to suggest he may be on a very steep decline, he is really nowhere close to the same player he was in 2017. No disputing he is an all-time great, first ballot HOF type guy, but since 2018 he really hasn't looked anything close to that type of player. The problem is the Sharks are paying him to be that player for the next eight seasons.

The slope only gets steeper from here. :)
