Isn't this exactly what everyone wanted to start the season? I remember a number of posters bemoaning the possibility that Kovalchuk could put us in the blackhole.

The reality is that if you aren't good enough to be in the conversation, it's better to be terrible and get better draft picks. Years of being just good enough to get smoked in the playoffs never really works. So if we are going to be bad, then losing games and being in the top 5 for the draft seems to be the better plan.

The Kings are looking good to end up in the bottom 3 and probably the bottom 2 in points. I don't see them getting jerked around in the lottery again but it could happen. Either way, a top 5 pick is going to get us a difference maker.

And Detroit beats Boston today. If it's even possible, Detroit has played better than the Kings in the last few games.

They showed great effort against the Bruins. 50 points adrift of Boston in the standings but it wasn’t apparent today.

Bernier has played really well the last month.

All the forwards in their top 6 today were 25 or under.

I think they got a good one on the back end in Hronek.

Some fans were out protesting in front of the arena in cold ass temps we Californians never knew existed. Sure, more media than fans but with their play on the ice you can't blame the fans for wasting a Sunday.

It’s the lack of recent moral victories which has me worried. At the current pace, next years sole ASG representative from the Kings will be Iafallo.

Kovalchuk is a beacon of positivity? My God it's funny how overdramatic these people get. He is having a moment. That's about it and Montreal will most likely keep him. Making emotion-based decisions over business decisions really never works out. Ask Lombardi how his gut decision on Mike Richards is aging.

It's pretty hilarious. Imagine the things we would see if Kovalchuk had a French name.

Just watching Jets/Hawks which has been pretty darn good thus far. Andrew Copp is an underrated player for the Jets. Excellent penalty killer, plays with some sandpaper and has good hockey IQ.

Both teams are starting to develop a bit of bad blood stemming back from their previous game. Love it.

I enjoy the circuitous route of the Penguins getting Zucker:

- May 2019: Minnesota and Pittsburgh agree to swap Zucker/Rask for Kessel/Johnson. Kessel uses NTC to block the deal.
- June 2019: Pittsburgh trades Kessel to Arizona for Galchenyuk and 2017 1st rounder Pierre-Olivier Joseph.
- July 2019: Minnesota fires Paul Fenton, eventually replaces him with Pittsburgh assistant GM Bill Guerin.
- February 2020: Pittsburgh trades Galchenyuk, Addison, and 2020 1st rounder for Zucker.

In the end, Guerin squeezed an extra asset from his former boss.
