That's a pretty big haul and hopefully helps set the market.

Zucker's got more years left on his deal of course, but his and Toffoli's numbers this year are nearly identical.

*Toffoli has played in 11 more games, as well. But even a fraction of that haul is still a 1st round pick

Not suggesting Toffoli should get a similar haul, just hoping that like with Zucker, the haul is more than what the prevailing wisdom was suggesting.

Pittsburgh is pretty much signaling that they are going to go away for a decade after the Crosby/Malkin era because they have one of the worst prospect rankings in the NHL. It's bottom 3 bad. They have an aging roster and now they are trading away their picks and a top 3 prospect in Addison. They better win it all again at least once because life is over for them after this period.

With Pittsburgh going nearly all in (and they may not be done), what do some of the other Eastern teams do? Capitals, Bruins, Lightning, Leafs, Islanders, Blue Jackets, Flyers, Hurricanes. Lots of big teams doing their damnedest to win. Surely, guys like Toffoli, Martinez, Forbort, and maybe even Carter have some value to them.

Quinn Hughes had 3 assists last night (44 pts for the year) was the 4th time this year he's done that. He becomes the second rookie defenseman in NHL history to record four three-assist games in a season (Ray Bourque)
Nice 2 way race for rookie of the year between him and Makar although I give the nod to Makar.

2-1 Yotes at end of 2nd. :devdance:

I'm sorry guys - I know that 3rd will turn into a 2nd, but I f***ing hate the Leafs. I would love nothing better than for them to miss the playoffs.

Go Leafs Go!

i think with that precedent set, getting less than a 1st for toffoli would be a failure

Never let context get in the way. Harsh grading scale.

They already beat the odds by having Crosby/Malkin after Lemieux/Jagr. The likelihood of seeing one half of either combo is on the low end. They might as well throw everything they have at the two that are currently there. Of course there's always the conspiracy that when it looks like the Penguins are going to move due to a lack of fan interest, boom, they get a generational player, but can the league do that a 3rd time?

for sure. Im not sure you make the deal for just a 2nd , unless you're getting a solid "A" prospect along with him. No more bottom 6 prospects.

If the offer was a single 2nd round pick, you would rather think about keeping Toffoli, and probably see him walk, then get an asset? Why?

If all we get for TT is a 2nd, then all the reports are wrong and only one team is after him.

But yes, you would take that 2nd all day. But there’s no way a bidding war results in that.
