This is such an under-appreciated aspect of hockey. It's one of the main reasons why I consider peak Karlsson to be one of the better defenseman I've ever seen, he was able to do this so much, as a d-man. You are not giving up possession by chipping it out and not risking a turnover from passing it or giving it up to a less talented teammate.

I'm assuming you meant to quote the Draisaitl possession tweet not the Coyotes cheating tweet :laugh:

But I agree, his exits were breathtaking, if he got the puck, ottawa was going to the ozone one way or another, and there was little to nothing anyone could do about it.
 


That he has a positive influence on the ice and in the room will bode well for any team, esp those teams who need a savvy vet, on a playoff run, to trade for him.
Also has been good for the Hab.

As much as I think he's been good for them and it will be a tough all, I think they'll move him. I don't think they're a playoff team this year and should cash in their Kovy chips.

Speaking of which, how many more times can a broadcast say the words Battle of Alberta? They taking notes from the Freeway Faceoff stuff on Fox and by Fox(and the Ducks)? I think we got it. Edmonton, Calgary, Alberta, been around for 40 years. I guess when the teams have barely been good at the same time for nearly 30 years, you can't wait to say it over and over again.

So, 2050 for the next Freeway Faceoff? Or did they say it tonight? I didn't catch the game. Hopefully they didn't say it.

You know who's playing a lot for one of the best teams in the league? JMFJ. We never hear much about that.

Because it's not a trade you can really be critical of since it worked. Now if JMFJ was traded for Lucic, then yeah we'd get a lot of "Guess what JMFJ did today?" posts.
 
Jack Eichel having a real strong season in Buffalo. He’s wasting away in Western New York.

Botterill has been pretty poor as GM. The fans are losing their patience and rightfully so.

Hoping they can turn it around. I’d love to see a good Leafs/Sabres rivalry rekindled.
 
Lucic is getting called out by media and former players for not doing anything during the Oilers vs Flames last two games. I think there is something wrong with him and he might just retire from personal reasons. I predict contract termination. They showed a clip of him just staring into space on the bench. Tkachuk has to fight Kassian twice? Come on. Lucic from the Bruins would never let that happen.

He was vacationing with Toffoli during the all-star break. Sounds like he's still in vacation mode.
 
Things could be worse for the Kings. They could have the Sharks' crappy contracts.

Couture - Age 30, $8M cap hit, contract expires at age 36

Kane - Age 28, $7M cap hit, contract expires at age 33

Karlsson - Age 29, $11.5M cap hit, contract expires at age 36

Burns - Age 34, $8M cap hit, contract expires at age 39

Vlassic - Age 32, $7M cap hit, contract expires at age 38

No hope of moving Karlsson or Burns, but maybe they still have a shot at moving the other three if they hurry.

Oh look, another GM who everyone was hailing as a genius before winning...does nothing.

Add him to the pile with Chayka and Stevie Y for starters. Blake soon if he's just going to sit on picks and hope for better weather.
