When I read about players ELC and how they can't exceed a certain amount I think about the McDavids of the world and how he was making almost 4M per year his first contract! Kubalik did not like the 925,000.00 entry level deal because there were no other things attached ala the Edmonton deal with McDavid. I'm not comparing the two talent wise just poking a whole in your argument about 925 Thousand period which is not the case. LA's deal had more to do with opportunity, minor league clause and garbage like that. Kubalik had proved himself on the European stage and LA crapped the bed in not recognizing and getting this player signed period end of discussion. Blake should have been a scout and talent evaluator before he was handed the GM reins where obviously he was not suited or qualified for!!!
The Euro stage is barely AHL tier. Plenty of players look good in the AHL and don't do anything at the NHL level. You wanted Blake to offer him what? 10mil 8 years before playing an NHL game?

What a ridiculous statement! Blake would know talent if it hit him in the head and concussed him. As for a contract a 2 year deal at 1M per with bonuses of upward of 2 M for getting 20 goals...and playing on the first line with Kopistar...Kubalik would have potted 40-45 perhaps!!!He's well on his way to 30-35 as a rookie on a line with Toews who's almost as good as Kopitar...you know Kopi the player LA has wasted with 3rd line slugs like Brown and Yafallo

You're applying outcome of today to the decision of the past. It's foolish. You didn't know any of this at that time. I think it's funny you choose 20 goals specifically for the bonuses because you know he would meet them because you're using hindsight. The truth is, at that time, he hadn't been able to hack it in North America and was in Europe as a result. The Kings still made him an offer, though, because they saw his talent. He turned them down. They traded a 7th rounder for a 5th round pick and moved on with their day. They didn't make the wrong decision.

What contract?? It would have been the same $925K ELC contract... meaning he choose not to come here... End of discussion
I'll give Kubalik this, he believed he was NHL ready and he has been for the most part. Oh well, shit happens .. move on..

Didn't know where to post this:

I want to buy a Dustin Brown fugly stadium series jersey. NHL.com only is selling Doughty and you cannot customize. Fantastics has Quick and Kopitar and same thing.

Anyone know where I could find a Brown?

Been ready for the most part...he has 21 goals buddy and will hit 35-40 at this rate! As for ELC who would you rather have being hindsight is 20-20 Lizotte or Kubalik...Kubalik or Proks? And besides Kubalik will net close to 3-4 maybe more on his next deal,July 1st,2020!The winner is the New Domin-ator...the loser and still losing...The Kings

Do you understand that an ELC was offered and he didnt accept? Do you understand that ELC contracts aren't customized the way your saying it should have been done? Its like you can't read but think your the smartest guy in the room for taking a stance that isnt even possible.

Blake looked stupid dealing for a 5th without having something else...like a 2nd or 1st...Kubalik looks like a Star in the making from where I sit and I'm an Armchair GM and Blake is suppose to be the real deal...Blake failed and so the did the Kings! It goes to show he shouldn't be running an NHL team...maybe a AHL team but definitely not an NHL team and after this years trade deadline the Kings will mirror an AHL more than ever before because of his incompetence!!!

Wait, am I miss-reading or are your saying Blake should have been able to get a 2nd or 1st for Kubalik (plus a 5th)?

He was a 7th rounder who hadn't played a game and didn't sign his ELC. The kings had no leverage.

I want to crap on Blake as much if not more than the next guy but I cannot fault him here. Just route that he makes the hawks decent enough that they stay out of a top 5 pick.

(except for the fact we all know the Hawks will win the lottery as a 17 seed)

Nah, I was actually really happy when we had him and Pro on the depth charts the past two seasons, just unfortunate that he wouldn't sign here. As for Prokhorkin, give him the amount of time with Kopitar that Kubalik has been afforded and he'd be right there scoring wise.. This is what it is, we cant undo it and he'd be wasted here anyways... time to move on

As expected. Ignore one, and I'm still stuck with the responses.

Kubalik had no interest in signing with LA. Look at all the development camps he didn't attend. He went back to Europe after trying his hand in the CHL. They tried to sign him, and there was only one offer to sign.

Nobody has been able to refute these points aside from tinfoil hat conspiracy theories and hearsay.

Just insert the meme from Quiz Show and move on, how anyone gives this guy the time of day is beyond me.

BTW Andys, just for reference sake, I clearly know more than you and Blake put together I knew Nick Lidstrom would be a hall of famer despite being only a 3rd round pick.....

See how idiotic that sounds when you do it AFTER the fact?

Dude, you need to lay off the bottle.

The Red Wings got destroyed, yet again. They’re a league worst -88 goal differential, and have 28 points. The Kings, who are the second worst team in the league along with the Devils, have 41 points.

This is a bad team of epic proportions. Yzerman has his work cut out for him to turn the Dead Things around. Holland left that team in such disarray, it’ll take a good long time until they’re relevant again. Similar situation as the Kings in the post Cup era, except Detroit’s run ended in 2009.

Seriously, I get so confused when I'm reading 3 pages of people angrily agreeing with each other.

Can't believe we're still talking about Kubalik. I mean don't get me wrong it's frustrating as hell that Kubalik, Pearson, and Kovalchuk all left for little and are having good offensive success. But is it really that complicated that complimentary offensive players don't produce well on a bad team? And say what you want about blake but we have arguably the best collection of prospects in the league right now. Can't have that and be a gm not doing at least some things right.

I agree with you except for Pearson.

Pearson got pushed down the lineup with Kovalchuk coming in. He did not respond well, but he I was far from skocked that he has regained some form of his game.

Not really.
Tanner Pearson - Fantasy Hockey Game Logs, Advanced Stats and more - Frozen Tools

He was playing with his regular linemates, Carter and Toffoli, or Kempe and Toffoli. He was an unproductive player who played like chickenshit when he was moved. Same reason Pittsburgh moved him, and he was playing with Malkin and Kessel there.

Kempe at center does not work, recovering Carter sucked last year (excuses that I had hoped he was going to rise above). I agree I had forgotten how he played like chicken shit, as soon as I read that i had flashbacks.

In Pittsburgh Kessel is not someone that will help a line mates stats (the PP is where Kessel's bread gets buttered). No reason he should not have exceled with Malkin though is so good. Rest of the time with last year's version of Brassard or McCan=yuck

This. Pearson turning it around was clearly him realizing that he was on his last bid to stay in the NHL and he's gotten back to his normal level of production after some down years. Good for him. Kings made the right move at the time.

I will agree they were right to move him but for Hagelin?

That's really Pearson's doing though with his abysmal performance, one assist in 17 games. All the Penguins got for him was Erik Gudbranson. It was less about what was coming back for Pearson and more about getting rid of a contract that at the time nobody wanted to touch. Spending almost $4M on a player who had one assist wasn't going to attract a lot of attention.
