Their best forwards are wingers. Karlsson is on pace for 16 goals, down from 24 last year, and 43 in the golden year. Stastny is 34, and has 12 goals and 21 points in 49 games. He's Jeff Carter. They still don't have a true #1D, and have been getting by on what they have collectively.

They just might not be that great of a team. They rode a lot of career seasons in 17-18, and haven't been able to get back to that. Even Subban was 13-4-2. Last year, they fell to 93 points from 109.

Does what looks like it could be an average team necessitate a coaching change? I guess if the front office thinks the team is more than just that, then yes?

It's almost like believing that they weren't that good--even while it was happening--was the right call. I mean, I wasn't in love with the 2018 Kings but I was happy to get Vegas in the first round and thought the Kings would beat them.

You look at their defense every year of their existence and you wonder how they are winning games. Whatever perfect storm that occurred in their first season (Shoulder chip, Vegas Flu, Biased officiating) is gone and here we are.

Talk about peaking early in your existence. Fifteen years and eight coaches later Gallant will still be the franchise leader in winning % and playoff rounds won.

Who would have guessed that Karlsson’s 86% shooting percentage wouldn’t hold and that a guy who never scored more than 10 goals as a pro before that one season wouldn’t continue to be a 40+ goal scorer? You’d think people in Vegas would know something about odds and probability but it turns out they really only know about losing their teeth to meth.

I love reading this:
15. The San Jose Sharks last missed the playoffs in 2014-15, and that was their only miss since 2002-03. One year later, they went to the Stanley Cup Final. That is the mindset for the upcoming off-season. Surprises happen, but GM Doug Wilson has let it be known he is not interested in disrupting his core. There will be interest in Brenden Dillon and Melker Karlsson (their number-two forward on the league’s best penalty kill after Barclay Goodrow). Will be interesting to see what the Sharks do with Aaron Dell, who has pushed his way ahead of Martin Jones.

Go for it Doug! Trade away another 1st to get this core back to SC Finals!

In some ways, what choice would he have, if he were to trade another 1st and somehow bring something in without a ton of cap to work with? If they keep it, and aren't terrible in 20-21, say it's a mid-1st. Is that guy going to change the franchise? Probably not, although you never know. If he plays, it'll likely be 2, 3, 4 years later. What does that do for them? They're locked into some of their guys longer than the Kings are at this point. Everyone has a 3 team NTC. Unless they could unload their core, they have to try to win now. If they accepted reality and started rebuilding in 2021, or waited until 2022 or 2023, even 2024, what's the difference? Plenty of bad years with no guarantee either way.

really?

I hate the sharks but I cannot argue with alot of what the rosters have looked like on paper. It looks like the finally are going to be bad for a while, but it has been an impressive run of being a contender. I am glad they have nothing to show for it, but I think the GM has done his part to build a competitive team.

I'm still chalking the 2018 Golden Knights up to PEDs and there is nothing you can do to convince me otherwise. Too many mediocre players having career years and too much regression once the first PED suspension occurred,

How awesome would it be if PED's could make the King's not suck. Kopitar would circle the net way faster, Lewis's shot to the goalie's chest would break the chest protector, icing would be called before anyone enters the zone cause the pucks would rebound off the wall so fast, and every time Quick would move laterally across the ice, he'd lose all his gear cause he moves so fast.

To a point yes, but he probably should have been fired after the sweep, and he DEFINITELY should have been fired when he told ownership he wanted to re-sign Karlsson.

I have to admit, I kind of like this Avs team. Just embarrassing the Sharks on the scoreboard and taking no shit from them when they try to scrum it up. It sucks because they will seemingly be good for a while, but they are fun to watch.

As opposed to all the high socialites in South Central right?

Edit: Perennial 10 goal scoring lucksack William Karlsson is only six points behind Kopitar btw. He would be the Kings second leading scorer lmao.

The one good thing is that by the time our rebuild is done-ish McDavid and Mackinnon will be 30...right?

Vegas is 15 points up on the near dead last Kings. Being almost tied with Kopitar is nothing to brag about.

Yeah, really need to contextualize for the scale of offense across teams.

People need to realize that the NORM is Kopitar outscoring his next closest teammate by 10 or more points, and that was with a functional Jeff Carter. Not many other teams have that phenomena, there's usually a dynamic duo or linemate or a lot more within 5 points. Even in good linemate years he's outscoring guys he's on the ice with full time by 20 points. That's absurd.

Right this moment, halfway through the season, Kopitar is basically at right exactly his career pace--72 points--on one of the worst offenses ever seen. He's got 43 points when his next closest teammate has 27.

Jackets beat the Canes 3-2 last night, great game. Was 2-2 and Jackets scored with a 1 minute left. Elvis has been really good in net since he's stepped in (I think they have a good goalie there) and all that young talent Jarmo and JD drafted over the last several years is coming to fruition. They have very good young players and more in the Farm system.
They are 13-4-1 in their last 18 games and back in a wildcard spot.

A little OT but I am going to get a VGK custom license plate. GKG 12 :)

I would hope someone understands this

It's almost like they're going to have to suffer some kind of hardship, the same most teams do over the years. Someone said making the finals in their 1st year was the worst thing to happen to them, and it's true. In a few years, those expectation will be gone and the media with talk about them the way they talk about the Wild, kinda good, but not that good.
