Should GMs always be loyal to the future of a franchise? It's not like it's a family. I guess in some ways GMs are caretakers, but as long as their jobs are dependent on 30+ other people performing, they also have to be somewhat selfish.

I would think it would be in their best interest to do so,

Whose going to hire a GM who left a team in absolute shambles, with nothing to show for it? One can argue Lombardi should/will be hired again because while he left the Kings in shambles, 2 cups.

Whereas, Garth Snow, I don't see him ever getting another GM job....

I have a hard time taking Carcillo seriously when you hear about the things that he did to everyone else. A lot of people have come forward and said that he was the one perpetrating all of the bullying/hazing. Go listen to Biz talk about how Carcillo would pay him to let Carcillo shoot him with paintballs. The guy was a ****ty person and seems to be deflecting his shame onto others. I have never heard him once apologize for all of the horrible **** he has done, he just spends his time trying to point his finger at everyone else.

I get that, but the flip side is what better person to talk about it if in fact he has learned from his mistakes.

Seabrook's injuries at least seem very legit. Plus i think their team actual improves this year with him off the ice.

I'd rather not listen to someone who suffered no consequences for his own actions spend his time trying to dole out punishments to others. Like I said, I believe this is him feeling guilty and trying to make sure the finger is always pointed the other way. It has largely worked so far, Carcillo is viewed as some paragon of justice despite his only actions being that he tweets exaggerated accusations at everybody and anybody.

Then we can't be criticizing a GM that has been around for 15 years, specifically because he never "went for it", since he always has to have an eye on the future and the job he's going to leave for the next guy.

When Lombardi's job was potentially on the line in 2012, and he gave away yet another 1st round pick before any actual on ice success, was that selfish? Was he not thinking of the organization? Or do we explain it away as a calculated move, because ultimately it worked out?

Love how you are trying to make it out to be absolute's on each end....doesn't work that way, but it's nice to try,

You can absolutely criticize Wilson, because he NEVER went for it, and when he finally did...with Eriksson, it was WAY too late and he didn't recognize it.

As far as Lombardi in 2012, he went for it, and it paid off, the CBS GM, went for it last year, and it didn't, but you can absolutely criticize him for misjudging his team, Lombardi would have suffered the same judgement if he went for it, and it only paid off with a series win....

But yea, GMs have to have an incredible balancing act, as well as an acute sense of timing....not easy to get both right.

It was in his own best interest not to do so. He had to worry about his next job. Although Eriksson was hardly his first big move.

So what you're saying is basically that winning cures all? Doesn't really matter how you do it, just that you do it? You can ruin the future, if you win today. Similar moves are correct if you win, wrong if you don't. Sustaining a quality team for 15 years isn't good enough. Had the Sharks gotten 2 more wins in 2016, all sins for more than a decade are forgiven(even though they had a lot of non-Cup success over a long period of time). That's basic sports, and absolute on each end.

Sorry....non-cup success? WTF is that, code for saying we sucked for 15 years?

Of course winning cures all, not sure there is any other way, Wilson didn't recognize when the time was to go for it, you say Eriksson wasn't his first big move...Thornton was his first....and a no-brainer they gave up f***all for him, after that though...then what? He failed to recognize when his team was ready to actually go for it....that's his downfall.

Winning once is hard in any sport. Winning consistently is why we label certain teams dynasties. It's even rarer.

about torts expletive laced outburst

20. Lots and lots of reaction to John Tortorella’s outburst following Sunday’s 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago. Honestly, the first thing I thought of was that he’s as angry about the defeat and the injury to surging Joonas Korpisalo as much as anything else. That was a brutal outcome for the Blue Jackets, trying to fight their way into the wild-card race. Korpisalo is second in the NHL in starts, with 31, but if you look at his workload, it’s really increased in the past few weeks (he had 10 appearances in 20 days from Dec. 3-23). They had to be worried about pushing him too far.

I watched the disputed clock situation on both broadcast feeds. You couldn’t tell on Chicago’s, but the seconds ticked after the whistle on Columbus’s. (There is a cable connected to both broadcast trucks that links the clock to the score “bug” — TV jargon for the on-screen graphic.) Apparently, when the Blue Jackets called timeout after the too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty, two assistant coaches asked for a referee to check with the clock operator. Both did, and were told it was correct, which was relayed to the Columbus bench. As furious as the NHL was at Tortorella’s outburst — and a suspension was considered — there were coaches/executives who privately indicated they supported him. He walked it back on Monday.

If there was a phone conversation between Tortorella and Colin Campbell, the NHL should make it available on a 1-900 number for $3.99/minute. The salary cap would go up $10 million.

Justin Williams apparently signing back with the Canes’ this weekend. If so, great to have him back in the league.

Frolik to Buffalo.
Scandella to Montreal.
Reilly to Ottawa.

Picks involved in each deal.

Gallagher now out indefinitely with a concussion for The Habs.

They also already have out Drouin, Byron, and Armia.

What’s that I hear...? Oh, it’s the price for Toffoli going up.
