Kovy signs with a Montreal.

Should provide some laughs reading Canadian press reporting on his game the rest of this season.

IMO him signing with the Habs, a likely non contender that is having injury issues really shows there wasnt that much of a market for his services. Basically a defensive liability power play specialist.

He was gone long enough for the whole thing to die down and now he's back. Meanwhile Perry got 5 games for his errant elbow.

Five games for a repeat offender on a blatant chicken wing.

Non-repeat offender keeps his elbow tucked, hits shoulder first. Two games.

Ridiculous but expected from this silly league. If MacD actually targeted this guy's head, he would have killed him.

*edit* Just watched the stupid explanation video. So MacD thought he would stay along the boards but I feel like he actually skated in a bit towards center after dumping it. Regardless, MacD isn't even looking at him when he makes the hit, keeps the elbow tucked and basically missed the hit. If he really hits him in the head, the kid still hasn't woken up.

Shouldn't be a suspension but more than one game is ludicrous. Basically, they are telling him that they've seen him crush people and injure them (Kase, Bennett, San Jose Scrub) and would like him to stop hitting people so hard. The video talks about how the hit could have been avoided: yeah, it could be avoided if you decide to just let a guy skate into your zone with his head down.

Regarding Perry, he apparently described his hit to the head as "very unintentional" as opposed to just "unintentional." lol Pronger physics.

I agree, but I'm betting Kovy is hoping he can go there, score PPGs, and try and get traded to a playoff team at the deadline.

Love a big hit as much as the next guy, but it was avoided with better timing, no one is saying let the guy skate in unimposed, but MacD missed so badly on his timing that he was on the outside of the hit, coming from the inside.

Think about that for a bit, watch Doughty when he really times it right, he doesn't end up on the outside boards while the guy is inside, he pastes him to the wall, MacD did not do that, his timing is completely off and it's not the first time....

There isn’t much in there. Just some speculation on if Kurtz’s tweet about laughing in the lockeroom after the kings loss means anything. Bourne manages to say both yes and no. Not the best writer imho.

Also discussion on LeBancs 1 year $1m deal backfiring on him.

The Sharks will start winning again soon. They’ll put together 11 of 14 or something and everyone will be like “watch out, can anyone stop SJ from their destiny this year?” Then the playoffs will start and they’ll f*** the dog like always.

There wasn't really much in the article that the headline didn't already address.

This is one of those occurrences where I think having played competitive hockey helps, as much as I try to avoid leaning on that. I just think that if you have, you have a better understanding that not every player at the highest levels of hockey are hardwired diehard competitive animals who eat, breathe and sleep the game. Some people are just really good at it, and getting paid lots to do it is really awesome. Which is to say, not everyone’s motivations and give-a-f*** meters are aligned.

When I played, I was on team “who cares about laughter after a loss,” because it wasn’t like I didn’t try while playing and wasn’t like I wouldn’t try next game either. That one was over, fini, on to the next one, it’s better if you don’t fixate on it. And I could really turn it on and care when the games mattered when I wanted to. So what’s the big deal, right?

Well, I think the big deal is the second part there – that when the games mattered I could really try and care (and get upset at losses). Hockey is a game of inches, as the desperation of playoff hockey reveals. If you’re someone invested in the Sharks turning things around, you’d think this dire stretch that’s seen them plummet to the bottom of the Western Conference would inspire some real try and care. Some desperation, some frustration. You don’t at all get the sense that on Dec. 28, as they pushed closer to 30th in the league – with their first-round pick going to the Senators – that laughter is reflective of a team very Not OK with how things are going.

Of course, of course, of course: of course something funny could’ve just randomly happened in that instance Kurz mentioned, and of course, it’s maybe no big deal. But, it might be worthwhile information about where the team is at, and so it’s definitely relevant information for the public. I think it’s great Kurz shared that with those who follow the Sharks. If the question is “Do you think post-loss laughter in the midst of a terrible slide is something or is it nothing?” my gut says it’s closer to something.

But also a blurp about:
Kevin Labanc took less money for the Sharks cap situation, most people assume. That looks like it was a bad idea.
