Matthews, Bissonnette, NHL make ailing Maple Leafs fan's dream come true
Ron Ruckstuhl, battling Lewy Body dementia, gets VIP treatment, center's stick in Toronto

Someone cutting onions in here all of a sudden!?

That was a great story. Who the hell is Auston Matthews supposed to be, Doc Holiday?

just gotta get pucks deep, get pucks behind their defensemen
bang bodies 60 minutes

Nick Shore has played 17 games for the Leafs and has 5 SOG...wow.

But how are his possession numbers and shot suppression? I think someone who was his biggest supporter used to laud those silly numbers as if he was some type of beast with the puck.

He's a defensive stopper with TO and yep, he's still very, very good at it.

His deployment: 4 offensive zone faceoffs, 32 neutral, 118 dzone, for a ozone percentage of 4% lol. Yet his GF% is the best on the team at 62.50%. His suppression numbers are ok given role (amongst the most dzone starts in the league despite 5 fewer games and not even half of the TOI of the guys ahead of him) but hard to generate a ton of SOG when buried like that (see: Marc-Eduoard Vlasic). Literally worst starts in the league.

An offensive team has put him in the perfect role for his skillset. He's an excellent defensive player with great ice vision. A cheap guy to munch the hard minutes so the more offensive Cs can go to work. Yet as usual, he's getting a raw deal here by people who seem to deliberately misunderstand roles in hockey so they can have a weird hate-on for Nick f***ing Shore of all players.

I always felt Shore was very good with his positioning. He had some offensive pop to his game in the AHL, and I think expectations got a bit too high for him with the Kings. I was never expecting him to top out as anything more than a Stoll 3C replacement.

He is winning 57% of his faceoffs in the defensive zone, which is kind of a big deal for a 3C or 4C.

We disagree on the player but I have to applaud your loyalty. I feel like you should be wearing a Shore jersey to the next Kings game you attend.

sensing a theme here

The game has changed pretty drastically since then. It's now a game where either you can play at a high speed totally on your edges or you can't. Power forwards, character players, players over 30, they're dinosaurs now. You're not going to see another Ryan Smyth or a Luc Robitaille, guys who can't skate but they can shoot and bury goals from in cose. The question now is how long will this last? What will be the next change to NHL hockey?

It's a copy cat league, so if St.Louis is the new flavor of the month, look for more of a mixture of speed and heaviness. Depth in the forward position will be a must. You still need guys who can pound teams in the playoffs. Skill/speed alone [SEE TAMPA] is just not enough.

Speaking of Tampa, what's going on with them? Not a bad record but nowhere near the regular season juggernaut they were last year. So far.

Think what you want on Shore. I personally don't care for him, others apparently really-Really-REALLY like him, but 5 SOG in 17 games is just an unbelievable stat any way you slice it.

For comparison the closest guys to him on the Kings are Ryan (5 SOG in 7), Lizotte (21 in 18)

I tend to agree that Cherry's frustration was about new immigrants not embracing a Canadian tradition, but I think he was also lashing out against long-time or native born Canadians residing in large cities failing to carry on the tradition.

Bingo, he did this SAME EXACT BIT, 4-5 years ago, maybe longer....no outrage....hell, he even said YOU PEOPLE...

Anyways, he was interviewed on local TV afterwards, said he would have tweeted an apology if asked, but everyone was fine with it until the next day etc....

I don't know that I really, really like Shore, but he serves a useful purpose on a good team that doesn't need him to eat big minutes. His #1 job is to go out and win a faceoff in his own zone, and keep the puck out of his own net. I bet he rarely crosses the opponent's blue line. If I was Babcock I would be telling him, "As soon as you clear the puck from our zone, get over here and change, so I can get Matthews out there."
