He didn't say Immigrants. He said "you people", but it was construed as being toward immigrants. I guess Mississauga and Toronto have a lot of immigrants because he talked about walking around there and not seeing people wear poppys, but what do I know about it I live in Southern California.

Was very much targeted towards immigrants.

If he would have said all Canadians who enjoy the life and freedoms we have need to support vets that would have been 100% supported, no need to target a specific group.

Not sure what coverage it has down south but I feel like it has been beaten to death up here, and I cannot understand why people are linking it to politics and our Prime Minister.

The whole thing is just blown out of proportion. If I ran a network and wanted a specific voice and view on that network, I would not want someone who does not share that voice or vision having a weekly role. Seemed inevitable and hopefully Hockey Night in Canada can put out a better product now.

On news outlets I have seen no coverage at all. HFboards and few other online places are the only places that I have seen this incident discussed.

I think they were looking for an excuse to get rid of Cherry and this sufficed.

The Canadian Prime Minister wears blackface multiple times and he is forgiven. Cherry says "you people" and is fired.

Being on the politically correct side of the fence gives you a little more leeway both in Canada and the U.S.

Don't get me wrong, Cherry shouldn't have said what he said. Just noting the double standard.

the prime minister apologized and cherry didn't, right?

I dont know the context but you people could mean lots of things. This generation, the people in the studio, etc. There is a double standard in politics and it's just not cool.

What double standard? They're both wrong. But Cherry said these things today and won't apologize, so it's a pretty easy decision.

The PM really didn't need to apologize. The whole thing was a joke. He executed poor judgment as a young man. What a controversy. Regarding Don, his follow up comments to the Toronto Sun I think it was clarified his point which was he felt everyone should wear the poppies and do more to show their appreciation for the veterans and he wasn't apologizing for it. Seemed like a strange hill for Sportsnet to die on.

He said “you people [who] come here”. He’s not talking about tourists.

Sportnet is just your typical liberal media outlet seeking with the PC culture. F'em. They forget it was Cherry who made HNC to what it is today.

By "the PC culture" you mean people who don't tolerate garbage humans that think they can single out a entire group of others as if they are superior. As for the bolded, whatever he has or hasn't done in the past doesn't give him carte blanche to be a f***stick in the here and now.

The woke generation has wanted to oust Cherry for a long time. Once he said another stupid thing, which was bound to happen, they mobilized on social media and forced the firing. I'm surprised he lasted this long, to be honest. I don't agree with it but that's a larger discussion to be had that goes far beyond Cherry.

Regardless, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em 5 is a total classic. Watched that video over a hundred times in high school.

Not a liberal or Trudeau fan but he did not do those things as prime minister and has nothing to do with Don Cherry.

I didnt see anywhere Cherry said he was "superior". He was lamenting a fact regarding simple respect for veterans 1 day a year or do you dispute what he said?

Maybe you don't care for veterans yourself and that's fine but you cant turn around and call Cherry an a**hole for wanting to.

PM did apologies..
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Apologizes for Wearing Brownface at 2001 Party

Don doubled down on immigrants.

if he said what you say, he would not have been fired. but he meant immigrants .. like me (i'm american though).

I know the PM apologized. I said I didn't think he had to.
he's the Pm... he offended a class of ppl... apologizing was the right thing to do.
Don didn't double down on immigrants. He said everyone when asked about his comments.
You people ... that come here, whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey,” - DC

he did not take it back...

He offended blue check marks on twitter. That's not a class of people. I don't think I'd even call them people. Either way, he did the politics thing and said he's sorry(not sorry).

I'm talking about Don's comments made after being fired when he was interviewed and asked about what he said. He said he thinks everyone should wear the poppies and went on about being an example. I don't think it's a big deal and people offended by it need to grow a thicker skin. He lost his job over it because it's a cancel culture now. Dialog is not a thing to have in this environment and it's best to just keep your opinions to yourself, really. It's not worth losing a job over. It's also why I stay off Twitter and Facebook. Doxers are assholes.

Yeah. The "us" vs "them" is pretty clear. But these sort of blanket litmus tests are pretty dumb anyway. I don't wear pink in February - but it doesn't mean I support breast cancer mowing down women. I don't wear poppies on Veteran's Day, but it doesn't mean I support jihadists mowing down soldiers.

I don't know who you mean by blue check marks on twitter since I don't have one. but if I have to spell it out to you, you're a lost cause.

As far as your defense of DC, sportsnet was right in moving away from the racist. as far as thicker skin, it seems that a lot of RW here are more offended by the firing.

You don't have to spell it out for me. I just think you're wrong. You think I'm wrong. Why would Kadri defend a racist then? He must hate himself right? lol
