Anyone have the Islanders upsetting the Flyers in the second round?
I think I will take the Islanders over the Flyers in a close 6 or 7 game series.
I'm a Flyers fan and I have the Isles in 6, and I don't see that as an upset. Flyers were not the better team vs Habs, who had only a trio of finishers. Habs were better but couldn't score, due to most forwards shooting hide, wide and 3 feet to the side. Flyers had too much sloppy play, turnovers, giveaways and PP that is all but dead, hovering at 10%. Islanders have finishers on 3 lines.
Goaltending - even. Hart is 22 , talanted and has a nbright future, but for this playoffs, from all I've seen Varmalov has faced tougher competition
Defense= edge to Isles, whose system is defense structured. Playing them in the 3rd periods is like stickhandling ina phone booth. Have outscored the other team 11-4 in the 3rd
Offense- edge to Flyers on paper. But paper doens't put pucks in the net. Flyers offense is anemic, most of the goals that went past Price were body part goals, perimter shots that went off his own teammates as well as Flyers.
Special teams - almost even, but lack of PP for Fliyers and how often they lost the puck during the PP's gives edge to Isles.
Isles now are scoring 3.3 goals per game nad givint up 1.6
Coach- Isles, Trotz is alot better, a real tactician. I've never liked AV and even less so now , his love of medicocre vets (See Brauan and Thomson's ice time, despite how horrific they are) over talanted youth is something I've never liked. He's too old school and has been outcoached in his playoff runs.
How I saw the Flyers Habs, was the Habs lost the series, rather than the Flyers winning it.
Unless they clean up their act, I can't see them taking 4.
