Right--I guess it wasn't really clear but I was agreeing with you and trying to further understanding for everyone by avoiding the semantics of 'playoffs/play-ins' by just subbing in 'postseason,' which makes it a lot simpler, and retains to some degree the integrity of the stats (which as you note aren't exactly perfect over the years anyway) instead of adding a column for 2020 shenanigans.

Cheers!

Cheers to you as well! I just had a grumpy weekend.

Go Kings!

There's one left. If he would agree to go anywhere, it would probably be there. The Leafs can't be worried about the future at this point.
So, the Kings would be asking for Marner +, then taking Byfield at #2OA. That would be interesting.

Random question that I've been wondering about: Why didn't the Kings re-sign Frolov?

Invisibility. Still remember Bob Miller ragging on him out of frustration [which he never does] because he just disappears for weeks at a time. Most frustration King player I can ever remember.

I think Aki Berg and Jamie Storr can give Frolov some competition. Given their draft positions and lofty expectations, they were a couple of the most disappointing cornerstones of the 90s to early 2000s. At least Frolov gave the Kings some productive seasons, unlike those two.

I loved that Frolov-Handzus-Simmonds line.

Frolov gave us 5 straight seasons of 50 plus points, on a pretty damn good contract.

On a shit team. Between Palffy and Kopitar, he was really the only bright spot. Cammalleri and Demitra too, I guess. And Visnovsky.

Florida doesn't know what to do. They may or may not want to cut $10m from the payroll, and if they do, you let Hoffman and Dandonov walk, and replace them internally. I don't know how that works, because they can't stop pucks going in, and if they also can't score, it's going to be a problem.

Always want to see the Panthers get better, but everything they do seems to be wrong. Two great contracts up front, but they've wasted 2/3 years of them already. With no clear answer to any remaining question. They need to win the lottery. They're good enough to be in the mushy middle.

+? Trading a soon to be 31 year old defenseman signed until 2027, for a 23 year old point per game play making winger signed until 2025? If there's a + in there, the Kings are adding it.

...or you could look at it as giving the Leafs exactly what they need, when they need it and relieving them of a stupid contract for a guy who disappears when it matters most.

So why do we want this

I know nobody cares, but this is my thought as to who I would like to see win:

1. FLA
2. MIN
3. NSH
4. WPG (would be poetic justice if they won because their spot won to begin with)
5. NYR
6. TOR/PIT
7. PIT/TOR
8. EDM

Would be interested to hear what others think.

Pretty much nails it. The bottom three would be brutal for everyone. The top five, pretty much in that order, I would be fine with.

They mentioned it during one of the Panthers games, but they need structure for BOB to do well.

As far as first overall lottery today, as long as it isn't NYR, Pit, Tor, or Edm I'll be cool with the results.

Pretty much the same for me, but I'm starting to not really care. Pittsburgh and Edmonton are the only ones that I'd be annoyed with because they've been blessed with an undue amount of lotto luck in their histories.

In general, i guess i agree. However, i prefer Laf not be in the West. So as much as i'd hate to see spoiled franchises like TOR/PIT win, it wouldn't bother me that much...like Edm would winning. That would be the worst. For the other West teams, i'm not too concerned with many of them since MIN/NSH are trending down now. WPG could be a bit scary if they won. Just glad VAN/AZ advanced because both of those teams (VAN especially) would be a huge concern the next decade after adding Laf.

Feels like a move in the wrong direction. Toronto has shown the world first hand the last few years what happens when you have all the forwards and none of the defensemen.

I think you are correct. Not sure what Toronto has to offer to get Doughty out of the Kings. Toronto's forwards, with the exception of Tavares and Matthews, are overpaid and signed to long term deals.

I thought Jamie Storr disappeared because his brain got scrambled against the Blues.

If the Kings were to hypothetically trade Drew, I would imagine it would be to a win-now team for a younger defenseman... but if that team had a young, talented defenseman enticing enough to trade Drew for, why would they?

Sergachev? Provorov? Werenski? Chabot?

I'd like to see Florida or Nashville get him.

Minnesota would be fine, but I just think the Wild are such a boring franchise. If he goes to say Pittsburgh, at least it's interesting.
