Does anyone need more proof that this year is a farce? I’ve got nothing against Philly, other than their fans, but they are not a #1 seed.

Right now Philly is playing as good as anyone in the league. They kind of remind me of the 2014 Kings, they just come at you in waves because the forwards are so deep.

The usual Philly issues of goaltending and coaching seem to not be there this season.

Seasoned ended prematurely, with 13 games left, they were 1 point from #1 in the Metro and Tampa Bay despite their reg season point parade, has shown being "#1 seed" means nothing when you don't have the mettle to win when it counts.

The Flyers did get the first 4 pts easily because neiher Boston or Washington showed up for the games. There is a reason have not won a game yet. They (and some other RR teams) are treating the Round Robin like training camp/presason. They think they can turn a switch on next week. That's a dangerous road. Tampa Bay waited until mid way thru the 2nd and to 'wake up' and did dominate the 3rd but you need 60 min, not 30.

Right now, because they did win all 3 RR games, they finished with the most points required to be the #1 seed.

Yeah, the seeding is a joke
Yeah, I think the seeding games were actually more like tune up games for the top four teams in each conference.

I was not as interested in those games as the others, and I think most people felt the same way.

For me, the only game which is must see today is Columbus vs Toronto. Would love to see the Leafs crushed, but I am content to see it in a later round as I don't want them having a shot at Laf.

Isn't there technically "home ice" with the last change?

they do get last change but I think that's not as big as the seeded matchups. As the #1 seed, getting to play the worst surviving team would be huge and much more of an advantage than the last change.

They are likely the best team in the East. With or without this seeding mini-tournament. TB is TB until they show they're not TB anymore. Not sure the Caps trust Holtby anymore. Boston is always a threat, but at some point, you have to think age catches up.

Still think it's absurd to count these games as playoff games when eliminated teams are added to the lottery.

We all know the situation. They couldn't not add the lottery part because of teams like Montreal and Chicago. Thanks to Edmonton being Edmonton, and Pittsburgh seemingly no longer giving a damn, it's a problem, but it's the system everyone directly involved agreed to. There were a lot of variables to account for, and you accept it and move on.

In the West there are two confirmed match ups for the 1st round.

Chicago vs Vegas
Arizona vs Colorado

I don't see any upsets in the making in these series.

Zach Werenski and Ryan Murray will both play tonight (They really missed Werenski, who left injured with 9 min left in the 3rd. Jones and he are a top shut down pairing and he absense was noticable)

Devils will have 3 1st round picks

The New Jersey Devils had a good weekend. Thanks to both the Arizona Coyotes and the Vancouver Canucks moving on in the postseason, they’ll receive those respective team’s first-round selections as part of trades where the picks were lottery protected.

No.

Don't count them for playoff statistics. Problem solved.

So for the rest of time I have to look at three stat tables instead of two?

"Let's see... what are Jonathan Toews career stats... Regular season, playoffs and OH WAIT there was that one year where there were a handful of games added to the playoffs that some people couldn't wrap their head around as being extended playoffs because they were called "Qualifying rounds" so let's have THAT conversation forever."

No thanks.

They are playoff games.
This year the draft lottery included playoff teams.
It's really not that complicated.

Should we stop calling the 2004 playoffs a playoff because all 30 teams were put into the 2005 lottery?

I think the simplest way someone helped me uncomplicate it was by calling it 'postseason' rather than playoff games. These are all games after the conclusion of the regular season. No need to come up with a super elegant solution.

But people are also rightfully peeved because the NHL went out of their way to, uh, 'comfort' the non-playoff teams that it wasn't a playoff team that would win the lottery (which is an obvious insult to everyone's intelligence but that's a different story). Getting the chance to play postseason games and having a possible Lafreniere pick as a consolation price is a slap in the face to the nonplayoff teams.

Agreed, it's like nobody did the math and realized that essentially combining all of the lotto balls of 8th through 15 into 1 slot actually gave the loser play-in teams the best odds of winning the lottery outside of Ottawa which rightfully deserved their odds due to sucking and a trade. The play-in pool had a freaking 24.5% chance of winning the lotto and shockingly, it did! I'm over it, but that doesn't make it not utterly stupid.

As RJ said, the spin was "no team contending for the cup would be winning the lottery." This was a "qualifier" round.

A team in the playoffs won the lottery.

Just have the stats count towards regular season. Or just have a lottery for the 7 teams who didn't qualify. Or have 3 separate tables. Heaven forbid parsing through a row of stats.

Congrats to Connor McDavid for setting a record in a best of 5 series we'll likely never have again, but have it act like it's the same as a best of 7 series.

If you're worse than 19-20 Montreal Canadiens, who really cares what you think?

McDavid with his 9 points sets an NHL record for most points in a qualifier series. Will it ever be broken??

I don’t see too many Leaf games, but from what I’ve seen, Nylander is way over paid. Or CBJ is really shutting him down. I don’t get buzz about him.
