Agree, seeding means little. There is no home ice advantage.Yeah, the seeding is a joke
Does anyone need more proof that this year is a farce? I’ve got nothing against Philly, other than their fans, but they are not a #1 seed.
while there is no home ice advantage, there is the advantage of seeded matchups.

Yeah, I think the seeding games were actually more like tune up games for the top four teams in each conference.Yeah, the seeding is a joke
Isn't there technically "home ice" with the last change?

Still think it's absurd to count these games as playoff games when eliminated teams are added to the lottery.
We all know the situation. They couldn't not add the lottery part because of teams like Montreal and Chicago. Thanks to Edmonton being Edmonton, and Pittsburgh seemingly no longer giving a damn, it's a problem, but it's the system everyone directly involved agreed to. There were a lot of variables to account for, and you accept it and move on.
So for the rest of time I have to look at three stat tables instead of two?
"Let's see... what are Jonathan Toews career stats... Regular season, playoffs and OH WAIT there was that one year where there were a handful of games added to the playoffs that some people couldn't wrap their head around as being extended playoffs because they were called "Qualifying rounds" so let's have THAT conversation forever."
No thanks.
They are playoff games.
This year the draft lottery included playoff teams.
It's really not that complicated.
Should we stop calling the 2004 playoffs a playoff because all 30 teams were put into the 2005 lottery?
I think the simplest way someone helped me uncomplicate it was by calling it 'postseason' rather than playoff games. These are all games after the conclusion of the regular season. No need to come up with a super elegant solution.
But people are also rightfully peeved because the NHL went out of their way to, uh, 'comfort' the non-playoff teams that it wasn't a playoff team that would win the lottery (which is an obvious insult to everyone's intelligence but that's a different story). Getting the chance to play postseason games and having a possible Lafreniere pick as a consolation price is a slap in the face to the nonplayoff teams.
