The 3 annual magazines all have the same 4 teams finishing last in their divisions.
I like this guy. It's funny he talks about recency bias. I think that is why everyone has LA as last. I truly think we can expect bouncebacks for a handful of players some key players (Kopitar, Doughty, Quick). I think LA will be out side of the playoffs but will improve on last year
The Kings sure have had and impressive "Team Too Late"...Hey, I'm just happy we won't be icing a lineup that includes Dion ****ing Phaneuf.

Lecavalier
Iginla
Phaneuf
Gaborik (to a lesser extent since he was money in 2014)
If this was 2008 it would be a wet dream.
I guess they are finally consistent at one thing. We already know that's how this story ends.
Kings finish last, dump off all remaining assets...drop to 4th.
NYR and NJ blackhole, pick 1st and 2nd.
Yeah, absolute tanking isn't quite worth it anymore. That's why the league does what it does with the lottery. Can't really even call it getting boned. The league just doesn't want the "be horrible for ____" campaigns.

I wonder who takes over for Kypper on Sportsnet.
and that is just recently I am sure there are way more if you go farther back
I bet there will be a year when a stacked defending SC champ will lose a goalie or something, and miss the playoffs by a few points, only to win the draft lottery.bank on it!

Just an excuse to re-tell a story about how the NBA affected the NHL Draft lottery:
- June 1993: Ottawa drafts Alex Daigle #1 overall. Their owner got liquored up and bragged about tanking the last game at a post-Draft party in order to guarantee them Daigle. NHL wasn't happy, so they fined him, and looked to make changes in the next CBA.
- January 1995: New CBA is ratified, NHL agrees to institute a Draft Lottery.
- May 1995: NHL forgets to figure out the lottery rules ahead of time. They try to figure it out on the fly at the GM meetings, but now with the season over, several GMs have conflicts of interest. Simultaneously, the Orlando Magic had the best record in the Eastern Conference and are en route to an NBA Finals appearance. In the moment, they looked primed to be the next dynasty thanks in big part to their unlikely 1 in 66 lottery win in 1993 which eventually netted Penny Hardaway to go with Shaq.
The momentum leads to the NHL wanting to avoid an "Orlando" situation where a good non-playoff team ends up with the top pick. So they institute the rule where a team can only move up a maximum of four spots which stood until 2013.
- June 1995: Kings win the first draft lottery, move from #7 to #3. They draft Aki Berg. So you can blame Shaq/Penny for the Kings not getting Bryan Berard.
I remember Aki's rosy red cheeks-that's about it.
I remember him getting his ass kicked by Mario Lemieux. And he actually held out an entire season. Aki Berg of all people.
That’s a good thing. For once, the league may avoid a work stoppage.
So if the players are still mad enough about escrow, we can see a strike?
