But who is that player in this UFA crop? Does AEG even want to spend more than $1MM annually on anyone new at this point?
Not sure there is one this time around. I personally don't like his game that much, but maybe Jamie Benn could be a player who would garner a pick at the deadline.

i feel like a couple seasons ago there were pretty extensive stats showing that he was one of the best 3rd(4th?) line centers in the league and it's not like he was being paid handsomely for it

i mean i don't think he's a great player but he was very good at his role

He's a fourth line center who was matched up against other weak lines and put up numbers that are comparable to a bottom pairing defenseman. He's just a role player who certain nerds feel the need to place on a pedestal, because he doesn't bleed goals against other weak opponents, I guess.

$10 million for Bobrovsky? For 7 years? Is it a prerequisite that you have to be a complete and utter moron to be an NHL GM? Holy Christ.
love the guy but that contract is mega Pejorative Sluro

an rvh, highly athletic goalie signed to a contract that takes him to 37... sounds good at $5.8M, $10M not so much

The Kings need to be on the look out for rehab projects like they did with Brad Stuart. You sign them to short "prove it" contracts, then if it works out, you flip them for 1st or 2nd round picks at the deadline. That's how you go from having a prospect pool a mile wide and an inch deep to one that has real depth.

How many other options did Stuart have back then? Plus it was Lombardi, who I believe drafted him. If a better team wants you, you're not going to sign a prove it deal with a worse team.

If the Kings stay the same and everyone else adds is that considered tanking?

It should be considered they want the guys they are spending money on to actually earn it this year.

100% agree. This would be good business. Say a veteran LHD not getting a whole lot of offers right now signs for a bottom dwelling team like the Kings performs well on a bad team, sell him at the trade deadline and profit. And if it doesn't work out, oh well, you didn't risk anything and didn't put prospects out to the wood shed when they weren't ready.

The guys the Kings will be putting out there aren't prospects. Or, they're on the edge of prospect and nothing. If Roy or Walker get ruined, who cares. The guys with any actual potential won't get regular games with the Kings this year.

Already in Vancouver on a 2 year deal.

Pretty sure you mean Jordie and I think he already signed.

The Stuart situation is weird because he went on to play for several more seasons after the Kings. Jordie Benn is already 31.

If I'm an older player looking to just get a contract, I'm not going to LA if I have another similar offer unless it is Ottawa or something like that. CA taxes are trash and they are not a contender. If we are talking about someone who isn't getting an offer from anyone else, then how good is that player?

I felt like Luke Schenn could be a fit but he's getting that tax free money on a contender. The Kings are just not an enticing option at all for the moment.

I love the fact we do nothing and I am serious.
i don't see much else to be done really, you hope toffoli pops off so you can ship him at the deadline, get the kids some fat minutes..

i mean i'd certainly like to gain another 1st/2nd in the next draft somehow but i think that's on toffoli

So when are we going to trade quick for Wennberg ? I didn’t think much would happen today, but I was hoping we might land a Hutton type but that would be about it.

Clearly typing words on a monitor displays my rage and anger. It's just funny to see Shore's lone fan placing him on a pedestal and accusing others of backpedaling on comments of him being an NHLer. You don't even know if he'll be on their pro roster, but I guess you're certain he'll get more ice time than Matthews, Tavares, Kadri, Spezza, Gauthier. Nick Shore, proven NHLer.

Yeah, I think it's 50-50 if he's actually an everyday player. This popcorn was all worth it though.

oooh, no. He was actually getting some of the toughest competition and literally the toughest defensive starts amongst our forwards while putting up some of the best defensive numbers in the league. You can downplay it, especially given the state of our roster at the time making him redundant, but being proudly ignorant only further emphasizes the irrational dislike. I'm still just trying to understand why a group of posters is so upset about his existence. Is he just a symbol of medocrity and we needed a pinata or what?

and OT but mymerlincat making the free agent forum all about him is one of the most adorable things i've ever seen from a moderator on this site

I guess some people prefer vanilla ice cream, like you do. The guy averaged fourth line ice time and was just a healthy body. Andy Andreoff and Kevin Gravel signed NHL contracts. Guess those of us who didn't care for them either must be backpedaling as well since they signed up with NHL teams.

I'm also trying to understand how a player who was unwanted by three teams and couldn't land an NHL contract is so valuable, yet can barely get an opportunity. I guess you must know something nobody else does.
