How much more are you paying? Dallas has the tax thing, and they're obviously trying next year. What do the Kings have to offer except term/cash?

A spot on the defense. I'm not paying much more. Our defense is pretty thin on experience and 1.5 and change for 1 year isn't much of a gamble.

Shore will be fantastic on the Leafs, they needed a good defensive player down their lineup.

Kinda funny watching the folks saying he's not an NHLer having to beckpedal though

Edit: okay "fantastic" is definitely hyperbole but such a weird amount of hate for a good player whose worst crime was being vanilla and redundant on a Kings roster full of players like him.

I don't think Dallas is wasting time signing him if he's not expected to have a spot. Maybe before the cap, but dollars are too important for that today. You'll have to bump up the years, like they had to do with Mitchell and Kovalchuk, or give him significantly more money for 1 year. Whatever the difference would be in taxes, plus the premium to sign with a team that isn't trying. The Kings don't have anything that makes them more attractive than the Stars.

The Rangers only think they have successfully negotiated the UFA market this summer. In reality their car looks like this.

He wasn't an NHLer this past season. In his last season in the NHL, three teams didn't think he was worth keeping around. Who's backpedaling? Didn't realize Shore was the missing piece for Toronto. Can't wait to see him lead the parade.

Why would anyone want to come here v. a playoff team short of overpayment on dollars and/or term?
The Kings need to be on the look out for rehab projects like they did with Brad Stuart. You sign them to short "prove it" contracts, then if it works out, you flip them for 1st or 2nd round picks at the deadline. That's how you go from having a prospect pool a mile wide and an inch deep to one that has real depth.

But who is that player in this UFA crop? Does AEG even want to spend more than $1MM annually on anyone new at this point?

Disagree. I like John Davidson and think he will turn this team around. I think they will move some pieces out to upgrade at center, they need to do that. But they are a much better team now than they were in APril.

This is exactly what was said after they signed Brad Richards in 2012.

NYR will always be losers in June, winners in July.

Yet the sheer irrational rage about the signing says otherwise.

Clearly typing words on a monitor displays my rage and anger. It's just funny to see Shore's lone fan placing him on a pedestal and accusing others of backpedaling on comments of him being an NHLer. You don't even know if he'll be on their pro roster, but I guess you're certain he'll get more ice time than Matthews, Tavares, Kadri, Spezza, Gauthier. Nick Shore, proven NHLer.

100% agree. This would be good business. Say a veteran LHD not getting a whole lot of offers right now signs for a bottom dwelling team like the Kings performs well on a bad team, sell him at the trade deadline and profit. And if it doesn't work out, oh well, you didn't risk anything and didn't put prospects out to the wood shed when they weren't ready.

Here’s to Bread Man’s contract, which will hopefully drive up Mitch Marner’s worth as much as possible and continue to give them extra ammunition towards a bigger pay day. Leaf Fans - you are always absolutely intolerable. The hockey world doesn’t revolve around you no matter how much you like to think that it does. Cheers!

i feel like a couple seasons ago there were pretty extensive stats showing that he was one of the best 3rd(4th?) line centers in the league and it's not like he was being paid handsomely for it

i mean i don't think he's a great player but he was very good at his role
