So what's the tiebreaker if the Kings and Devils finish with the same number of points? Because the Devils game is tied now.

Luongo barely stayed on the ice to thank the fans at the end of the Devils-Panthers game. I'm surprised he didn't hang around to soak up the applause. Might be his last game?

From NHL.com
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.

The matchups are set, here is who we need to win for the purposes of improving the Leafs 1st.

CGY vs COL - Division winners can be no lower than 24th.
SJ vs VGK - SJ is already above the Leafs.
NSH vs DAL - Again, division winner.
WPG vs STL - Doesn't matter, both teams had fewer points than the Leafs.
TB vs CBJ - See above.
TOR vs BOS - It actually doesn't matter because draft position for non-division winners isn't impacted until a team reaches the conference finals.
WSH vs CAR - Need I say it again?
NYI vs PIT - NYI is already above the Leafs.

If a division winner doesn't reach the CF they will automatically be placed between 24-27, so in the unlikely event that no division winner reaches the conference final, the Leafs pick would be no lower than 23rd, this of course assumes the Leafs don't get their themselves.

Hoping for the 23rd pick.

Sucks that I'd like to see the Leafs and Islanders in the 3rd round. I can't get enough of those Islander fans.

Also the Caps going deep improves the Hagelin return.

Also I just want to see TB lose.

Big playoff for the Jets. A bunch of guys to sign, Byfuglien is 34, Wheeler will be 33 next year and gets a couple million dollar raise. Not necessarily now or never for them, but they have a crunch of some kind coming.

Thats an extra 6th round pick.

Perhaps we are better off with the Caps losing as quickly as possible, to get a better 3rd round pick.

Harken back to the Nate Thompson trade, apparently people would prefer an additional 7th round pick over a better 4th round pick.

Ultimately, it would be best for the Kings if all division winners and Toronto were eliminated by the second round, and 4 teams with fewer points than Toronto making the conference finals (like the 4 wild cards).

But to some, two in the bush is better than a bird in hand.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if every round is dependent on playoff results. The lottery is only for the 1st round, right? Then it goes back? If every round are based on playoffs results, then yes, the Caps need to lose. Or, I guess, would you rather have one extra whole pick, in addition to the 3rd, or just move up 7 slots(or whatever it would be) in the 3rd round? We're going deep in the rabbit hole with a question like that, because none of those picks are likely to end up in the NHL for too long, but I could see the argument either way.

Housley let go too. I'm surprised, but I'm also not at the same time. The Sabres had an awful end to the season, but I didn't think he'd be let go this soon. That's a team that seems to go through coaches like chewing gum. Get the most out of it for a while and then when it loses it flavor dump it in the trash.

Pulling for Vegas to sweep San Jose. Don't know how likely it is that they retain EK but I got to assume the longer the run the higher the chances he sticks around.
