Dave Tippett would suit me just fine.

might suit him just fine too...

31 Thoughts: Will NHL players fight for change to playoff format? - Sportsnet.ca

9. Last week, I mentioned Todd McLellan as a high-level candidate for Los Angeles’s permanent coaching job. Add Dave Tippett. Four months ago, he said, “I’m happy in Seattle, and I will be staying here.” But there is word the coaching bug has bit him again, and it is believed at least one team this season asked him about a return.

Dave Tippett is not the right answer for this club. From his days in AZ, I remember his coaching style was to play in the defensive zone, and counter rush. The Kings need the opposite style. A coach that will preach aggressive forecheck and puck possession.

Tippets style will just keep this team perpetually in the bubble even if we get skilled players from the draft in the next 2-3 years.

McKenzie: Lots of speculation in Los Angeles that maybe Todd McLellan would be a leading candidate there but nothing firm by any means.

I'm interested to see what happens to Boudreau in Minny...

McKenzie:
Minnesota, right now the focus is trying to make the playoffs but people wonder about Bruce Boudreau under long term general manager Paul Fenton, who did not hire him. Boudreau has a year left on his deal as a head coach and two more years as an adviser, he may not be in a hurry to pay money to a guy who's not the coach.

I wouldn't mind Boudreau but I think the Kings can make an even smarter pick here. The main thing I have with McLellan is his performance in Edmonton. He has all the experience and has proven he can be successful and even has a cup ring in his back pocket, but Edmonton is a rebuilding team with a bunch of kids. Sure, they are colossally mismanaged above him, but I am not sure he got much out of his younger players and that is going to be critical to any coach behind the bench in LA. In the end, anybody at this point will be a breath of fresh air from WD.

Will get intriguing next season if he doesn't sign with the Canes'. I'm sure there will be several interested clubs, including the Kings.

Waddell: Fox hasn't decided on future yet

In 32 games with Havard this season, Fox has nine goals and a team-leading 48 points with a plus-26 rating. Harvard is set to take on Massachusetts on Friday in the Northeast Regional semifinal of the NCAA Tournament.

Fox also represented Team USA at the World Juniors in 2017 and 2018 and is one of 10 finalists for this year's Hobey Baker Award.

He developed San Jose's players pretty good. Although maybe the credit should not go to him.

McLellan was dealt a bad hand in Edmonton. He wouldn't be my first choice, but I think he'll have a better opportunity here than the Oilers. And its a not for me on Tippett. I can't imagine he'd pass up the Seattle gig for us anyways.

Fox would be an absolute coup but i have no clue why he wouldn't sign with the up-and-coming Canes. Opportunity?

There's your Voynov replacement and practically a sure thing #3 if not more.

I'm a big fan, obviously, haha.

top 4 spots in Carolina would be pretty hard as they are very deep. Maybe that is why, would be great if LA could land him

Fox is doing the smart thing, he has all the cards. Odds are he would have spent a good chunk of the year in the AHL, making 85k or whatever it is. Instead, go back to school, get a degree from HARVARD and then re-evaluate. Carolina would still sign him after his season is over for their stretch run/playoffs so the ELC year will burn either way and if he wants to sign with the Rangers or Isles he can just wait and do that. Jimmy Vesey did the same thing, unfortunately it seems only the Harvard guys are smart enough to do that, everyone else falls for the lies that they "will be given a chance to compete" for a job and ends up passing up the college experience to ride busses from Tucson to Bakersfield or Milwaukee to Grand Rapids.

You mean like Tocchet is doing now?

Hard pass on Tippett. Just gotta let go of that mid 2000's love affair many have had with him. Give me someone who understands the modern game, younger and hungry . No more old retreads.

Mcllelan would be interesting. I'd like to know why he failed in EDM, but I'd say it had more to do with the guys above him pulling all the strings. They brought in Hitch and they're no different. EDM is a broke team with two really really good players.

Flames lost again tonight. If Johnny Hockey or Monahan aren't scoring that team is in trouble come playoffs.

With players like Tkachuk, Neal, Bennett they should have good secondary scoring. Even there young guys are solid.

The issue is that as we get closer to playoffs the games change. The games are less run and gun and more close checking and tight. There is less room on the ice. The flames system needs to adapt to this or they are screwed. They have the horses IMO just need to adjust the gameplan.

Flames lack of relative depth at center is what kills them. Monahan a solid 1C and Bennet is still pretty young, but isn’t someone you expect to suddenly start scoring goals in the playoffs if he stays at his current ice time. Guys like Backlund and Ryan are older and don’t move the needle in a playoff series IMO.

They are first in the west, so they should be favorites versus whoever they play. Right now it looks like that is Colorado, or possibly Arizona or Dallas. The flames should beat any of those teams with the defense they have. But I wouldn’t be shocked to see them lose to the Avs in a long series, given they have Mike Smith in goal. If MacKinnon runs wild and gets into Smith’s head, I like the Avs chances.

But even if they get to the second round, I think they lose there, despite their regular season record. I don’t see them beating Vegas, Winnipeg or Nashville any time soon with how things are shaping up.

If you see any of these teams lose in the playoffs because of goaltending, there may be more interest in Quick in the offseason. Quick has had some rough moments this year but there is not denying that he is still a solid goalie and what he needs is a better team in front of him.

It seems like a given that Florida ends up with Bobrovsky, but I could see Tallon being interested in him. It's too bad Carolina does not look like a good destination for Carter as I could see Carter + Quick for Darling (cap purposes), Bean and a pick or something. Darling cold be LA's next goalie rehab project and flipped once he is rebuilt.

Backlund is Calgary's Stoll and should be on the 3rd line. He would excel there and is a good defensive center. Issue is Bennett has not stepped up enough for the #2. Ryan and Jankowski have impressed me at times this year.

.

No, it's not.

With all the smack talk/whining he threw at the Kings in 2012 it's quite easy to eliminate him from the list of potential Kings coaches.

**** Tippet. Not in L.A.!
