It's kinda amazing looking at the 1992-93 standings.

Ottawa: 10-70-4 (24 points)
San Jose: 11-71-2 (24 points)

The 1993 Draft was right before I started paying attention to prospects, but the thought in the moment was that Daigle was the type of star forward who would be able to sell tickets as well. Whereas a defenseman like Chris Pronger didn't have the same marquee value. Somebody uploaded the 1993 1st round on YouTube which is a fun watch if only to determine which prospect had the best mullet (Rob Niedermayer edged out Chris Gratton in my opinion).

The thing is Nicholson is not an idiot. That hire was what I thought would start turning things around in Edmonton. He was not part of the old boys club and I thought would bring some perspective. Today though he became a moron.

Nicholson is king of the ultimate old boys club, team canada men’s hockey. And I think he has removed the guys like Kevin Lowe and MacT into the background, but they’re still there. But look at their former AGM, and bow interim GM, Keith Gretzky. Pure nepotism.

Edmonton is never going to get back to prominence. They are the poster child for waste. They have done nothing but waste draft picks over years, make terrible trades, overpay for guys and in the end, they will waste the career of the best player they have had since Gretzky.

Nicholson was quite stupid in those comments, you just cant do that, it's one thing to call out an entire team or even a group of guys, but to put the failure of playoffs on a 3rd tiet fa signing, just shows everyone you dont know what's going on
 
Rieder cost them nothing but cash. We gave up Darcy Kuemper, who might drag the Yotes into the playoffs.
