Canes win, now have 87 pts, just 2 pts out of 3rd. Rooting for them, all heart and hustle. Props to Brindy in a job well done as a rookie coach in the NHL.

I always liked Rod the Bod. Was actually hoping the Flyers could pull off the impossible, so I was cheering against the Canes, but now I am on board.

It's hard to cheer against Rod Brind'Amour. He captained the Canes during their Cup run. Known as the heart and soul guy of the team. When they absolutely needed a superhuman effort, you knew he was gonna be on the ice. That 2005-6 had a magical collection of players, including Justin Williams. That playoff run was so much fun to watch; I've never heard a stadium that loud in person.

I would love to see the Canes go deep again, just to see their celebrations in the playoffs. What a bunch of jerks.

Good read. A story by Frank Seravalli about Brady Keeper, a University of Maine defenseman who signed a contract with the Fla Panthers. Keeper is the
first person from the Pimicikamak Cree Nation to make it to the NHL. It's a beacon for the kids on the reservation he grew up in:

Cross Lake became a national story in Canada in 2016 when five teenagers in the community committed suicide, while 140 others attempted suicide in the weeks that followed – prompting Cross Lake to declare a state of emergency.

It gives them hope. It’s very powerful,” said Jordin Tootoo, who played 723 NHL games by way of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, and now mentors Aboriginal kids throughout the country. “They see guys like me and Brady, guys who have seen a lot of things on reserves and in remote communities, and let’s them know that anything is possible.”

It was a tough go at times, and he almost quit. But he kept at it and now has become something every kid in that town can look up to. Good for him.

Looking like tonight could be the worst possible night for Columbus.

Carolina wins a 3 point game vs. Pittsburgh
Montreal gets 2 points
Columbus losing 3-1 in third

Sutter stands at the ready, though I doubt Toronto wants an honest, hard working, western Canadian coach. :)

Man was he getting trashed today on Hockey Central radio this morning . The way Doug McClane was just ripping into his game was as bad as I've heard anybody go off on a defenseman. Jake is the new whipping boy in TO.

He made a tape-to-tape pass to a Predator that directly resulted in the first goal. That's the good/bad balance with Muzzin, although the problem is when he makes those mistakes that wind up with the puck in his own net.

Columbus rolled the dice several times at the deadline. They kept making bets on the come line, and once they had all the numbers covered:

I think the only team he'd come out of retirement for is Calgary.

I could see him in Edmonton next year. It is equally as far from his ranch (a bit closer even).

I think there are some burned bridges in Calgary. I went to the Iggy retirement ceremony and was surprised he was not there.

I really like their team on paper, but clearly something just isn't clicking. But they are still a team that an elite team doesn't want to see in round 1. Teams like Tampa/Winnipeg would much rather see Montreal/Phoenix type teams than Columbus/Chicago.

Fans in Calgary likely remember Sutter as a lousy GM, and they probably should.

Yeah, it's down to Columbus and Montreal playing for the opportunity to face Tampa Bay in the opening round. I am sure Tampa would rather play Montreal.

Rough situation for Columbus they went all in at the trade deadline to try to make it out of the first round and they are now facing not making the playoffs or having to face Tampa in the first round.

I bolded the nonsense,

1. The team was pushing to make the playoffs in 2016, made them in 2017, has had a horrible 2018, nothing about that suggests Forbort is the reason, that's just insane, he's still on the roster because the Kings are making a push to be the worst, that MIGHT make sense, if he was a rookie.

2. Are you suggesting that the Kings pipeline is the only place to get defenseman? Hell, they got Muzzin by free agency.....but you'd rather believe that the Kings couldn't replace Forbort because their pipeline is bad (has been, I do agree with you, but that's NOT the reason Forbort is still on the roster)

I don't know why I keep taking the bait.

You have your years wrong. They made the playoffs in 2016 when Forbort didn't really play. His first full season, they missed in 2017. Even if you meant they were pushing for the playoffs in '17, you are sugar coating things. Guess the Kings were pushing for the playoffs this year until being eliminated last game.

He is now a full-time player on three teams. Two missed the playoffs with this year's team going down as possibly the worst season in Kings history. Is it all his fault? Of course not. Does he do anything to keep them from being worse? No. He is part of the problem.

When I say they are making a push to be the worst team in the league this season, just go and look at the standings. Look at the goal differential and where they are in the standings. They might finish dead last. You can't argue this fact.

As for the pipeline, you are right: they could go out with limited assets/cap space and try to trade for someone better that makes equal or less money. Difficult to do without it being a push or negligible difference since his cap hit is so low. That's where the pipeline comes in. If the Kings had a better pipeline, he'd be on a lower pairing or gone: probably the former since his cap is so small.

He is perfect for the tank right now and probably for next year. UFA after next season. Blake will have to make a decision that won't be terribly difficult if Forbort puts out more tape like this season's.
