Racist really isn’t the correct term for Cherry. I think someone else called him a nationalist, that is a more fair description. But then again it’s 2019 and apparently everyone is racist so...

And it’s gotten so bad where I live that racists are out at 2AM in -15 degree weather attacking people coming back from Subway. It’s a very dangerous time.

I can't stand listening to "analysts" like Stoll, O'Donnell, Anson Carter ect.

These guys, like most hockey analysts, have ZERO to say. No real opinions, no interesting insight. All they do is regurgitate hockey cliches they've heard elsewhere. BORING. That's part of the reason why hockey broadcasts in America are so bad. Every team's intermission report has a Jarret Stoll-type talking about "getting pucks in deep."

Cherry is controversial, opinionated, speaks his mind and is passionate about the game and the commentary he's giving. I enjoy when him and Ron MacLean point out all the little stuff and interesting nuances that go on in around the game that most viewers would never notice otherwise.

I'll take Coach's Corner over any Kings intermission any day.

I don't agree with all of Cherry's opinions but it doesn't change my enjoyment of his segments.

The king's intermission has to be one of the worst out there. Most show out of town highlights or something. LA shows interviews about what the players do during long weekends, what their favorite food is or what kind of dog they own.

Once Bob Miller and then Sean O'Donnell left it became tough to watch the Kings broadcasts. They were the two best things about the broadcast.

I know I tend to select the other team's broadcast more often now then I ever have before.

Cherry is what he is. He is an entertainer and kind of a fossil in terms of modern sports. He is a "Get off my lawn," type of guy who doesn't really care about hurting feelings or toeing the line. It's not that much different than some of the older announcers in baseball who still say that players aren't playing the game the way it's supposed to be. They want it to be the same as when they played or when they were kids.

Sports are changing and it's not going to go back to the way it was. Whatever side of the fence you sit on, it's reality. I don't think Cherry is a racist. He is just a guy who has no filter and in this day and age with social media and outlets everywhere that record his comments, he will see a lot more pushback because of how people's feelings have change with regards to insults or criticisms.

With older people the filter doesn't clog, it just gets blown out allowing everything to pass right on through.

People need to grow thicker skins. If as they say Cherry is an idiot, they should consider the source when he levels his criticism at them. Could it be though that there is a measure of truth in what he says, and that's what actually bothers those he critiques?

Especially if the police determine the identity of your "attackers" and threaten to charge them, then it gets much more interesting.

I think it's more accurate when people call him Xenophobic, but I could see nationalistic, given his propensity to slam anyone playing the game in a different way than 'the good ol Canadian boys' and his tirades against Russians, Swedes, Finns. Ovechkin could make the same bad play as Crosby but only one of them is going under his microscope.

I like him being colorful. I don't like his generalities, but he's an icon for the right reasons imo, even if I disagree with him 75% of the time

He's slammed Canadians as well, not as often as Europeans, yes, but he's an equal opportunity slammer, that's why I don't buy into this Xenophobic BS, that's just millennials having to label something to feel better about not liking it.

People have called him xenophobic since the Summit Series, though. He's always had a very "us vs. them" mentality though. Note again I'm not personally saying it as a criticism, but it's hard not to observe. Yeah he'll go off on a Canadian once in a while for not backchecking or being soft but rarely in the aggressive "it's because HES RUSSIAN" tirades he's gone into over the years.

I guess I could change millenials to snowflakes..... I understand what you are saying, but to me, it's not once in a while etc, he will go off on anyone if there is merit, or, what he deems as merit, sometimes he's on, sometimes he's off, but people take the easy way out, those that don't like him and go, omg he's xenophobic, or racist etc, and it's not true. Does he emphasize Canada over everyone else, absolutely, I don't think he's ever said differently, I don't think I've heard him, say I don't like XXXX because he's Russian, he has said a guy is soft, the game is different etc, I'd have to research to see what he said about Konstantinov, because from all I can tell, that's Cherrys prototypical player, Russian or not....
