I'm sure the Pens front-loaded the deal as much as possible under the new rules so they could trade or offload his cap hit at the back end.

Not sure the Pens needed to clear cap space if they were going to sign Johnson for that price. I really thought it was going to eat up a lot of what was cleared. Either way, glad for Johnson, and glad the Pens got suck with him :)

I still always associate Madden with being a commentator for WCW right before they went under.

Circa 2007, there was a poster on a different message board who was vetted to be a close friend of Jack Johnson's. He said that Jack and Sid wanted to play together at some point of their NHL careers (at the time, they ideally wanted Montreal). He said Jack would wear #78 to mirror Sid's #87. I'll chuckle if that prediction ends up being true ~11 years later.

I do not at all understand this from Pittsburgh. 5 years for Jack Johnson? Rutherford still does things sometimes that remind you why he sucked as a GM for years before he got to Pittsburgh.

I never thought he'd get a 5 year deal. I actually thought he would be a one year deal, possibly a PTO, especially when Columbus couldn't even get rid of him at the deadline.

I'm guessing they're hoping lightning strikes twice. They took on Justin Schultz who looked like a tire (tyre?) fire up in Edmonton and turned him into a useful player. They may hope the same for Johnson.

Dsp signs with caps for 1 year and little over a mil. Lebrun said a team offered bunch 2 years and more salary (lol) and another team offered him a 1 year with more salary but he wanted to stay with wash

Johnson sucks but i'm genuinely happy for the guy, his parents screwed him over so badly, i'm glad that contract will give him some financial security.

I can't imagine how bad it must feel to play in the NHL for as long as he has and be essentially penniless through absolutely no fault of his own, especially given the talent, hard work & dedication needed to even get a cup of coffee in this league.

while i'm sure the minority on this board with that thinking i will take solace in knowing that i am definitely not the only one that thinks differently off here.

winning is absolutely fun but it doesnt mean its exciting. the two aren't intertwined. if i'm playing the game and winning them 2-1 sure i will think its fun and exciting. if i'm a fan paying? thats a different story. but hey its all good we are allowed to have different opinions

And you call ME delusional...... o_O

Rooting for the Sharks or Stars to get him if not us. :crossfing:crossfing:crossfing

Want him OUT of the Conference if possible.

"Devils not exciting" man it is like you've never watched the Devils of that Era. Love that the trap being bad and not exciting propaganda worked on people.. Smh

That's why I asked if he really was a Devils fan.

The whole "propaganda" about the trap is only eaten up by NON-FANS.

Can you blame him?

He wants to stay with the team that got him a championship.

Haha I didn't even know it was the same Mark Madden until just now! You learn something new every day! I've been seeing his tweets and reports on the Penguins for years now and didn't even realize it was the WCW guy!

Just figured they had the same name, kind of like football John Madden and hockey John Madden.

After seeing Jack Johnson get a 5 year deal (pending), I think Brooks Orpik might actually get a one year deal.

With the Sharks reported to have re-signed Logan Couture at 8 years, are they still in Tavares talks? And if they are, could the Devils be trade partners? Nothing jumps off the page to me, but maybe someone here watches the team closely and sees a good trade candidate
