yup haha.
I like that they (malking and Williams) have bad blood, I wonder what it stems from. I don't remember anything too bad about him from his time as a king. I really want to cheer for the caps because of Williams but just cannot. I like a lot of their players but hate the capitals.

Continue to enjoy their Sharkian futility, but root for Williams to pot 20. :)

Ovi is amazing as ****, too. A true warrior and plays the right way. But they are constantly the media darlings, or at least up there with some of the insufferable East Coast teams, so your hate is justified :)

Ducks just signed Rakell to 3.8M. Money to sign Lindholm is going to be tight. It doesn't look like moving Fowler alone will get them there.

Their GM is a joke. Contracts like Bieksa, Stoner, Vermette, Bernier (4.1) eating up cap space when they knew they had to resign a major piece of their D. Just stupid.

I agree with the exception to Bernier. His cap hit is 4.1 but he was paid his bonus by the leafs and then traded. To a team that operates on a budget less than the cap that is important.

Currently they have one too many players with the NHL club so one guy will be sent down. Lets say it is Ritchie or Sorensen, they will save about $800K, currently capfriendly has them at $365K of space so that will give them $1.1. Fowler makes $4M so if he is moved out they will have over $5M for Lindholm. I have no clue what Lindholm is asking for but that is likely pretty close.

No Ideal, but close anyway.

There are many rumors on what he is asking for.
And the latest seems to be at least 6M.
So that means 2 roster players must be moved in order to sign him.
Unless Thompson is serious enough they could move him to LTIR just to give a little time to move the second piece.

Kane's crash into the boards was nasty...cringeworthy watching it.

We take you back to October 2014 when the Los Angeles Kings, Williams’ former team, lost a game to the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0. The LA Times reported, “…there was the scrap between two highly unlikely combatants, Pittsburgh star Evgeni Malkin and the Kings’ Justin Williams. They traded words, tussled and Malkin slammed Williams to the ice.â€

#canadiens Andrew Shaw will have a educational meeting with Stéphane Quintal next week to make sure he's not crossing the line again.

'Educational meeting' , is that a code for taking him behind the barn to whump some sense into him.

Considering how long a list that is...that's a real honor

Isn't Lindholm primed for any offersheet now since Anaheim literally can not sign him without a trade?

Isn't Lindholm primed for any offersheet now since Anaheim literally can not sign him without a trade?

Not necessarily.
It depends on if Rekell is cleared to play.
If not he could be put on LTIR.
They also have Thompson on IR.
If he could be moved to LTIR that would free up even more space.

Yes it just means something must happen but it's not like it would have to be overnight. Or within a week, which is the time they would have to match an offer sheet.

And I suspect both these cases are likely avail. Not sure they would put themselves in a position of being able to not match an offer sheet.
And if both of these are the case they could have an offer sheet move the two players to LTIR and match over night. And then send a thank you card to the team for getting the contract done for them.

Isn't Lindholm primed for any offersheet now since Anaheim literally can not sign him without a trade?

Offer sheets are tough, first hurdle being whether a player would even be interested in signing one. When the Devils were in cap hell ~2006, Brian Gionta was approached by a couple teams but he declined the overtures.

Second hurdle is how many teams have the cap space to even field an attractive offer. According to GeneralFanager, only five teams have more than 5.5 million in cap space right now. And one of those teams is Winnipeg and they need to figure out their situation with Trouba. Other teams would have to dump somebody else to hypothetically fit in Lindholm.

Third hurdle is whether you have the draft picks to give as compensation which are a prerequisite for an offer sheet.

The Devils would obviously love a guy like Lindholm but we don't have our 3rd round pick*. That limits the type of offer sheet we can offer.

Over $3,755,233 to $5,632,847: First and third-round picks
Over $5,632,847 to $7,510,464: First, second and third-round picks
Over $7,510,464 to $9,388,080: Two firsts, a second and third-round picks
Over $9,388,080: Four first-round picks

Ottawa doesn't have their 2nd round pick, so that limits their hypothetical offer sheet (plus I think they're at their internal budget too). A team could trade to get that pick back (Toronto did that in 2009 to threaten a Kessel offer sheet). But it's tough logistically to find a team that has the cap space, draft picks, and roster motivation to attempt the offer sheet route.

*not 100% confirmed since nobody seems to know what the conditions of the Ruutu/Loktionov trade was

Nice find, Dee!

I don't remember that scrum, but Dub sure did! Lol

I love it when a player waits and gets revenge. My all time favorite is listed in the r article below, and why i love Hextall so much

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/goalie-attacks-a-how-to-guide-to-getting-revenge/

In 1989 the Flyers and Habs were in the playoffs. Chris Chelios cheap shotted Brian Propp, horrid hit, he was unconscious on the ice, the Flyer who knelt to assist him, lifted his helmet and blood ran out all over the place. This video opens with the close up of the head being lifted and blood running out. If you forward to 55 seconds mark, you see a reply of the hit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaHQ5mLiL1w

So Hexy waited and when the Flyers were about to be eliminated, late in game 6 he made a beeline for CHelios and nailed him. You ask most Flyers fans about Hexy and that the reason , that warrior spirit, we love him so much.

He also got a 12 game suspension to open the following season.
You have to watch the whole thing to appreciate his passion and temper. He was spitting fire, at the 1 min mark, after the refs pull him out of the pile, he begins tossing his equipment at Chelios.,
Hexy wouldn't leave the ice, even with ref holding him at bay he wanted to and challenged the Habs goalie to a fight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3cHDAKJdb0

The temper of his, (which I loved) gave him a real fire. God help anybody who got to close to him in the crease. This video is a bit dark and grainy but it's a compilation of some of his best temper moments, using his stick to make the offenders pay, even leaving the crease to chase them

Wow, dude, cool insight on some Flyer history, Dee. Hextall was possessed. "Hextall is looking at Patrick Roy, he wants to go" lol!!! Our Quickie has that same fire.

Thanks, brother.

Can I ask, what drew you to the Kings, being a diehard Flyer fan? I've seen you on this board since I've lurked since '13. Did you spend time out here?

Thanks again for the history lesson, man.

Also, what do you think of Chelly's work as a color commentator?

Dee came over with probably about 10 Flyer fans when Richards was traded here. While I still don't understand how anyone could switch teams based on 1 player, she has proven to be a quality poster and has stuck around after MR left. You can't say either thing about any of the other "fans" who came here in June 2011.

Something based around Lindholm and Trouba would make sense for both teams, no? Lindholm is and will be the superior player though. I'd have zero qualms giving him a 7-mil offersheet with term if we had the space.

You're welcome. Actually , I'm a female fan. Live in Philly, and although a Flyers fan since I was a kid, in the 70's, am also a huge hockey fan, thanks to center ice I get to see a lot of games (watched 3 and half on Wens night) , love everything about it.

What drew me to the Kings? - A long long time ago, lucky luke robitaille, but back then no internet or cable so I only got to see him on the national games and articles in Hockey Digest.
Casually- fan from the time I saw Doughty in the 2010 Olympics and couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Serious fan- in not missing any games, even tho I get up at 530 am for work and most nights the Kings games don't end until 1 am or so, when Mike Richards was traded. He's my all time favorite Flyer (along with Hexy, Mark Howe, John LeClair and Dave Poulin) and so I arrived here just after the trade. Enjoyed the threads , comments, and passion and jumped in. Only board I post to. Great shop talk here about the Kings and HOckey.
I love hockey, I listen tot he TSN podcasts from their radio shows , read a lot of online articles and post stuff here if it's interesting.

CHelios- I guess he's okay. It's like Scott Stevens, I still see the player an get pissed. Some of the analysts are better than others. Bob McKenzie, Elliotte Friedman, and Pierre Le Brun are the 3 I trust the most when it comes to rumors or analysis. Dreger's okay too.

I also think since he began working for NBCSN last year and NHL Network, Brian Boucher is good. I was glad John Forslund called the game Wens night, I like him alot, he's one of the better play by play guys. I like Dave Strader too, shame about his cancer.

Looking forward to a good game tonight.

Dee, well we are oh-so very fortunate to have you here, and you schooled another Kings fan on some Flyers' (and NHL) history. Thank you so very much, I watched every one of your clips and immediately thought of our Quickie (as I said in my original reply) while watching Hextall wreak havoc.

I also apologize for the gender confusion, obviously it's impossible to know male from female on a fansite, especially for a relative noob like me, but it won't happen again.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to interact with me, and here's to a hard fought, and clean, game tonight between our two teams tonight :)

Thanks for a little history on our board, Herby. Obviously I wasn't here when the Richards trade went down, so I appreciate the feedback, bud :yo:

For anybody who enjoys Bob McKenzie's NHL input, insight, rumors, etc, I just discovered he is debuting "the Bobcast', a podcast he'll be doing every other Friday.

http://www.tsn.ca/bobcast

Where he takes questions from fans and answers them. I think he is probably the most trusted reporter/analyst in that GM's, coaches, players, etc, know he's class and quality and so his stuff is usually good, legit He also knows hockey better than just about anyone else and his insights are usually dead on.

10 minutes in, so far so good...

Stick tap to you Herby, thanks. And now that Ed Snider is no longer the Mad Butcher of Broad STreet, and Homer isn't ruining the team's future anymore, I am enjoying the Flyers again, and looking forward to Provorov and Konecky starting their NHL careers tonight. More young talent in the now (finally) healthy farm system will make it a lot easier.

The Kings are an easy team to enjoy, and I am addicted to Drew Doughty. And am looking forward to watching Toffoli's upward path to continue. He's really going to be an elite forward, I think.

Disappointed that Sutter wasn't replaced, respect what he accomplished from 2012 thru 2014, but the tide has changed over the last couple of years. Would have preferred a new philosophy, fresh air and a new direction. But that will come in time.

Quick/DL considering a goalie - So about halfway thru, a question came in about Quick's injury, the length of it and would the Kings consider a goalie. Bob said from what he understands, he feels it will be months not weeks and if Dean can get a temporary fit that would upgrade the goal, at a low cost acquisition, somebody that he would not have to retain after this year , he feels he will do that. Pavlec makes sense, he felt, because the Jets don't want to pay 4M to a goalie buried in the AHL and he felt a deal is there if Lombardi feels it's warranted. He felt the Kings wouldn't have to give up much to get him.

Lindholm is losing about 20-30k per day because his GM would rather have guys like Bieksa & Stoner on the team. If a team gave him an offersheet right now I'd bet he'd sign it over losing a few more days of pay.

Yeah... teams have to have the picks and space. Unfortunately with Quick out I don't think the Kings should be looking at offersheeting right now. Lombardi needs to free up some cap space. Lots of deals to be had if you have some cap space at the start of the year.

Edit: Also for funzies.... It doesn't look like just moving 1 of Fowler/Despers/Stoner will make the cap work for Lindholm. They may have to move 2 guys.

Jets board was throwing around Trouba + Pav(50%) for Muzzin. :naughty: Just saying....
