Yea.

Sucks, but at least he wasn't wearing a knee brace. If it's a broken 5th metatarsal, common with shot blocks, it's a month to a month and a half.

Didn't King miss almost half the season with a broken foot from a blocked shot?

He did, and I remember that blocked shot from a preseason game. You could tell instantly from where the puck hit him that he was injured.

As for Gaborik, this is an annual tradition for him. So much for hoping he'd remain healthy.

The guy is one of the most injury prone players in the league, I was expecting him to get injured...

**** this ******** tournament. All for the World Cup back in the 90s but the game is so much softer these days that the tournament isn't even interesting and is only a chance for guys to get hurt.

Even more amazing to lay it on the line for ****ing "Team Europe". What a farce...not even playing for your country and it impacts your real job and the team that pays your salary.

'96 World Cup solidified hockey for me as the best sport out there. I watched the 1st period of the US/Europe game of this tournament and that's been it. What a complete joke.

Just wondering, do you guys think this tournamenent is being seen as a success? I'm a huge hockey fan but I haven't really gone out of my way to watch any of it and care more about Kings pre-season then I do the "world cup". Was the plan to do this tournament every year or something else?

I saw the TV rating for USA - Canada and it was like 700k which isn't really that great for ESPN for a "marquee" event. I wonder how they view this tournament vs. their expectations.

It is obviously a bust in the US as the team bombed. Plus, it is American teams dealing injury fall out from the tournament as well.

Ratings might be great in Canada but big deal: of course they would be.

It is 100 degrees outside...baseball is in the home stretch and football is going on. Who gives a ****?

Doesn't even look like the arena is sold out outside of the Canada-USA game. Even their game Saturday you could see rows of empty seats. Then again, maybe the tickets sold and the person just never showed up.

The tournament is a fart in the wind when up against football.

The horrible commercial spots leading up sure didn't help either.

Babs on Team Europe: "I don't spend a lot of time getting ready for Cinderella. I'm getting ready for Anze Kopitar."

If I was Kopitar I would drop the white flag during the first face off

Nice, did he really say that?

Hockey world is having fun with the a Oilers new mascot, Hunter. Greg Wyshynski has Photoshopped or retweeted some gems.

Time until Bailey drops the gloves on Hunter?

I'd say don't fall asleep before then, Bailey. Freddie's cat says, "Muah ha ha."

ETA: or Hunter and Bailey could just have a dance-off.

(Got that from the Oilers board.)
