The most offensive thing in that gif is those terrible sweaters. Just godforsaken terrible.

And LOL at the Nugent-Hopkins nameplate. Just about a mile wide.

Since when have the Wild and Bruins been rivals, 2012? They really need to re-evaluate this whole Rivalry Night on NBCSN.

that's because of the new western AHL division next year is it not? no surprise

Right but there's a chance that may not happen for another year since the AHL needs 5 teams minimum to make the jump west and there are none that are really in a position to do so other than the Kings with the Monarchs and Reign. The other teams suspected to make the jump have agreements with their current affiliates through next year or dont own their AHL/ECHL franchises to make the transition smoothly.

The oilers own an ECHL team in California as well I believe. So that will become their AHL. No issue.

The Oilers announcing they won't be playing OKC next season, in my opinion, is huge step towards the AHL West launching next season. Darren Dreger also tweeted today that Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, Edmonton, and Calgary are expected to launch in the AHL west in 2015. But said his source wouldn't give any details. There still issues with others teams such the Ducks need to purchase an AHL team and still are in an affiliation agreement with the Norfolk Admirals for the next few years. Although, they could end up purchasing the Admirals and move them to San Diego or somewhere else in California. Also the Ducks, Sharks, and Flames affiliates still need a arenas to play in.

But... the main reason I think this might be a big step towards the move west happening next season, is if the Barons aren't playing OKC, and they're not playing Bakersfield. Then where the heck are they playing?

Why could they not play in Bakersfield? that's the ECHL team they own right?
It's hard for me to believe the flames would be ready for this next season as they just moved their AHL team to New York area this past year.

I'm saying if they AHL west doesn't launch next season and the Barons aren't in Bakersfield, then where else could they go? I think I read the Flames only signed a 1 year lease in Glenn Falls. So they should be able to leave with ease. But don't quote me on that, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the clarification CT and Perro. Thought there was issues with the Oilers move but I guess not.

The Glenn Falls agreement was 1 year which led to speculation of the move west being why.

The real holdup is going to be Anahiem purchasing a team to move to San Diego and dropping two teams from the AHL to let the Denver Cutthroats and Arizona Sundogs of the CHL join since they are both in a state poof limbo after this season and have announced they aren't playing in CHL next year.

That's a lot of pieces needing to fall into place in the next 6-8 months.

One more time -- a CHL team cannot simply BECOME an AHL team. The fact that these teams are not playing has nothing to do with this proposed western move -- they aren't playing because frankly, they are bad ideas and/or in bad hockey markets. A mid-minors team in Denver to compete with the Avalanche who are having pretty meager attendance in the first place was dumb from day one. And Prescott Valley is just too small to really be able to support any mid-minors team, much less the AHL.

Even IF those markets were desired AHL destinations, two teams wouldn't be "dropped" from that league -- they would be MOVED from current markets to new markets.

Re-read my post. I'm aware of the bolded which is why I said that your point would be a big hang-up in the move west happening... :shakehead

This is just the latest plan that I had seen on the whole situation. Plus the theory that I saw was that the Denver and Arizona teams if it happens as being the Avalanche and Coyotes' affiliates so there wouldn't be competition the same way the Reign aren't competing with the Kings because the farm team is affiliated with the big club.

#NYR News: Joey Crabb of @WolfPackAHL is being isolated from the team & being tested for the mumps

Well the Canucks have lost Five straight, the Flames Six straight. Door is wide open for the Kings to gain some ground.
