We really crapped the bed. During the regular season, there's the easy way, and there's the Kings' way.

So, Kings are still 4th? And the Kings still have a chance at home ice?

The Sharks' regulation loss tonight was crucial. With that loss, we don't have to beat the Sharks in regulation to finish ahead of them (we would have 59 points and they would have 58 points with an overtime or SO win). Had the Sharks won tonight, a regulation win on Sunday would've been a must for us.

Question: If the Sharks won tonight, that would've put them ahead of us 59 points to 57. Assuming the Blues are no longer a factor on Saturday (meaning they are eliminated from getting the 4th seed), the Sharks and Kings are tied with just over a minute left in the 3rd. Would you pull the goalie even though the score is tied? Because we would need a regulation win to finish 4th.

Yes you would.

But lets talk about the almost perfect thing that could happen. STL wins tomorrow. We then win on Sat vs SJ and STL loses in any fashion. We get 4th with STL getting 5th and SJ gets 6th. I say they win tomorrow because that should be an easier game for them than the one Sat vs CHI.

Do you think Chicago will rest their star players? Well, not like the rest NBA stars get at the end of the season by sitting out. But maybe the first and second lines getting less minutes?

I think it depends on if they feel it could affect them. They have been on such a roll this year I know I wouldn't want to take the foot off the gas.

There is a lot of second guessing going on right now in Chicago. Why the **** did they play Emery before he was ready to come back?

Stupid, stupid, stupid. I happen to think Emery is playing much better than Crawford this season.

It's getting to be that time of year when my favorite obscure NHL points rule could come in to play.

If a team is in need of a regulation or OT win (not a SO win) to make the playoffs or improve their seeding, they can choose to pull their goalie in OT for an extra skater, however, if they do so and they are scored on with an empty net goal, they lose the point they earned getting to OT. The winning team would get a ROW for the OT win and 2 points, the losing team would get zero.

Fun times. Hope it happens this year.

I hope the coaches know about it! That would be pretty neat to see.

I can't believe St Louis may control home ice

If they get home ice, the Kings have only themselves to blame. If they'd managed a single point in the prior two games, they'd have complete control over 4th still at this moment. But they played like they did, with the intensity they did... and now they're where they are.

Let me get this straight...

We win Saturday and St. Louis wins their next two. That would put us at the 5th seed and St. Louis as the 4th seed, correct?

But, if St. Louis manages to get 3 points in the next two games and we win Saturday, that would put us both at the same point total, and we (I believe) own the tiebreaker so we'd have home ice against STL first round?

Am I messed up or no?

Correct on both fronts. In the latter case, they would have 23 ROW's. The Kings already have 24. ROW is the first tiebreaker.

No, you are right. St. Louis can go as high as 60 points. St. Louis also has the tiebreaker over SJ because St. Louis has more ROWs.

STL wins both of their 2 remaining games (60 points), LA beats SJ in any fashion (LA with 59 points, SJ with 57 or 58 points) = 4 St. Louis vs. 5 Los Angeles, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 San Jose

STL wins both (60 points), SJ beats LA in any fashion (SJ with 59 points, LA with 57 or 58 points) = 4 St. Louis vs. 5 San Jose, 3 Vancouver vs 6 Los Angeles

STL wins one in any fashion, loses one in OT/SO (59 points), LA beats SJ in regulation (LA with 59 points, SJ with 57 points) = 4 Los Angeles vs. 5 St. Louis, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 San Jose

STL wins one in any fashion, loses one in OT/SO (59 points), SJ beats LA in regulation (SJ with 59 points, LA with 57 points) =
4 St. Louis vs 5 San Jose, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 Los Angeles

STL loses one in regulation, loses one in OT/SO (57 points), LA beats SJ in regulation (LA with 59 points, SJ with 57 points) = 4 Los Angeles vs. 5 St. Louis, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 San Jose

STL loses one in regulation, loses one in OT/SO (57 points), SJ beats LA in regulation (SJ with 59 points, LA with 57 points) = 4 San Jose vs. 5 Los Angeles, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 St. Louis

STL loses one in regulation, loses one in OT/SO (57 points), LA beats SJ in OT/SO (LA with 59 points, SJ with 58 points) = 4 Los Angeles vs. 5 San Jose, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 St. Louis

STL loses one in regulation, loses one in OT/SO (57 points), SJ beats LA in OT/SO (SJ with 59 points, LA with 58 points) = 4 San Jose vs. 5 Los Angeles, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 St. Louis

STL loses both in regulation (56 points), LA beats SJ in any fashion (LA with 59 points, SJ with 57 or 58 points) = 4 Los Angeles vs. 5 San Jose, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 St. Louis

STL loses both in regulation (56 points), SJ beats LA in any fashion (SJ with 59 points, LA with 57 or 58 points) = 4 San Jose vs. 5 Los Angeles, 3 Vancouver vs. 6 St. Louis

So yeah, if St. Louis loses both in regulation, they are stuck with the 6th seed.

Phew...

Well, 4th or 5th seed makes little difference in terms of home ice advantage against the blues...both teams will still only get 2 home games.
