We really crapped the bed. During the regular season, there's the easy way, and there's the Kings' way.
So, Kings are still 4th? And the Kings still have a chance at home ice?
The Sharks' regulation loss tonight was crucial. With that loss, we don't have to beat the Sharks in regulation to finish ahead of them (we would have 59 points and they would have 58 points with an overtime or SO win). Had the Sharks won tonight, a regulation win on Sunday would've been a must for us.
Question: If the Sharks won tonight, that would've put them ahead of us 59 points to 57. Assuming the Blues are no longer a factor on Saturday (meaning they are eliminated from getting the 4th seed), the Sharks and Kings are tied with just over a minute left in the 3rd. Would you pull the goalie even though the score is tied? Because we would need a regulation win to finish 4th.
Yes you would.
But lets talk about the almost perfect thing that could happen. STL wins tomorrow. We then win on Sat vs SJ and STL loses in any fashion. We get 4th with STL getting 5th and SJ gets 6th. I say they win tomorrow because that should be an easier game for them than the one Sat vs CHI.
Do you think Chicago will rest their star players? Well, not like the rest NBA stars get at the end of the season by sitting out. But maybe the first and second lines getting less minutes?

It's getting to be that time of year when my favorite obscure NHL points rule could come in to play.
If a team is in need of a regulation or OT win (not a SO win) to make the playoffs or improve their seeding, they can choose to pull their goalie in OT for an extra skater, however, if they do so and they are scored on with an empty net goal, they lose the point they earned getting to OT. The winning team would get a ROW for the OT win and 2 points, the losing team would get zero.
Fun times. Hope it happens this year.
I can't believe St Louis may control home ice
Let me get this straight...
We win Saturday and St. Louis wins their next two. That would put us at the 5th seed and St. Louis as the 4th seed, correct?
But, if St. Louis manages to get 3 points in the next two games and we win Saturday, that would put us both at the same point total, and we (I believe) own the tiebreaker so we'd have home ice against STL first round?
Am I messed up or no?

Someone needs to tell Brian Engblom to shut the hell up
Well, 4th or 5th seed makes little difference in terms of home ice advantage against the blues...both teams will still only get 2 home games.

Is he talking about his fishing trip again while play is going on?
