Except the math doesn't work out. If Detroit gets 1 point tonight they would have 48 with 4 games remaining giving them a max of 56 points. We only have 55.

Correct. I've seen several folks say that a DET loss in any fashion means the Kings are in tonight, but I can't figure out the technicality where that is possible. Certainly Detroit can pass the Kings in points, but there may be a combination whereby other teams who need points to pass the Kings play each other (thereby allowing the Kings to remain ahead of them) that would allow the Kings to clinch tonight if DET loses in OT or a SO, but I haven't found it yet. sportsclubstats.com has come to the same conclusion as well (any DET loss = Kings in) so I'm assuming it's an oversight on my part.

I think we own the tiebreaker with CBJs they can't pass us (?)
So
Detroit and Dallas could both catch us if they both win out but they play each other as the last game of the season. If Detroit gets only one point tonight then only one of them can pass us. If
Detrot wins tonight and losses to Dallas in OT in the final game then both could pass us.

So all it takes is one more win or two OTL's etc. If we get two more points we make it?

I guess we better just win as many games possible to make it certain.

Correct. They can tie in points, but not ROW.

You're exactly right on DAL/DET because at least one of them is guaranteed to lose at least 1 point the rest of the season, all the Wings have to do is lose tonight in any fashion, but in regulation makes it more clear because they can then only tie the Kings in points, but can't tie them in ROW, as they could only get as many as 22.

Well the NHL seems to think this ALSO ...

In the Western Conference, the Vancouver Canucks can clinch a playoff berth if they take at least one point from their game against the Detroit Red Wings. The Los Angeles Kings, who are idle, will clinch a playoff berth if Vancouver beats Detroit in any fashion.

And I think it's because Detroit plays Dallas for the final game, and Dallas plays Columbus in their 2nd to last game ... meaning ALL three teams Can't make it in, if Detroit loses tonight ... thus only two of Dallas, Detroit or Columbus can finish in Top 8 and meaning at WORST the Kings would finish 8th, and that's if the Kings lose out the remaining 4 games.

As some have said, even if Detroit gets 56 points, that means Dallas' max is 54 (since they play each other). That means the Kings clinch as long as Detroit doesn't get two points tonight.

I would just as soon see the Dead Things miss the playoffs. Hoping for a Vancouver win in regulation.

This has been a great game. But Hughson is way too much of a Canucks homer

I think Vancouver only had like three of four even strength shots on goal that entire game, pretty crazy
