Old and slow core, tear down the whole team and rebuild.

They can't, so they'll keep doing what they're doing. Everyone is still signed for 4 years, and they're not letting Ovechkin go anywhere. Assuming Ovechkin would want to go anywhere.

Same as the Kings have been, and the Sharks, the Caps are stuck. But, they still at least make the playoffs consistently, and will always be relevant with one of the great goal scorers ever. They have the 3rd best record over the last 3 years. Even if they can't get out of the 1st rd, they have no alternative to continue trying to win.

That's a rough ending of the season for the Oilers. They do have an opportunity to change their roster a bit this summer though. Probably still not enough.

Losing in the first round three years in a row is heading toward irrelevance.

They need to move money out to sign Ovie. They will get calls on Mantha + Kuznetsov.

Tied for 5th overall this year. 3rd overall the last 2 years. 3rd overall the last 3 years. That's still relevant. They'll still be talked about, because you can't ignore top 5. Once Ovechkin is gone, and the winning stops, then the Caps will go back to being what the Caps have usually been. Ovechkin will always generate interest. Just how the media works.

Even if that wasn't the case, they're not getting any real value for any of those contracts. The couple that might have some value, they can't trade them, or else it's taking their depth away. Another victim of the hard cap.

3 straight 1st rd exits for the Caps since the Cup. They gave Backstrom a Cup contract. Oshie is going to be 35 in Dec. They're going to re-sign Ovechkin to whatever numbers, and he'll be 36 for his next game. At least they got their one.

I think that was Kuznetsov’s last game as a Capital. They have likely grown tired of his act.

The window has closed in DC.

15 team NTC. 4 more years at $7.8m. $29m still to come in cash. Just turned 29. Not easy to trade.

The Oilers have two of the best forwards in the world and can't make a dent in the playoffs.

Hey they took on Smith. Maybe there is a market for Quick in Edmonton.

Weak and ugly goals given up by Mike Smith on the third and fourth by the Jets. You can’t pin the 0-3 hole on him, but it’s not a surprise to see him find a way to choke away a seemingly sure win.

And watching RNH this series makes me question whether he’s a good UFA to target if he hits the market. Just going by the stats this year, playoffs and regular season, Vilardi is likely a better option for the 2C versus one of the top potential UFAs.

The Caps are just the Sharks with one Cup.

Edmonton though, yeesh. Makes what McDavid and Draisaitl are doing year over year all the more impressive.

It still blows my mind that people keep signing this guy and expecting different.

Like I'm done arguing with any other fans anywhere about Quick, but the amount of actual professionals continually going to bat for butt goal is absurd.

But he didn't try to decapitate anyone so there's that
