Credit to Caufield and Toffoli for playing well, but Suzuki is a gamer who elevates the linemates.

I saw Suzuki as a Richards-like skill player who punches above his weight class.

Suzuki is a beast, I love watching him play. Great skill, some grit and insane game sense, another guy that the Kings were in the range to pick but went in another direction for what is looking like its going to be a lesser player. I don't want it to seem like I am saying they should have drafted all of these guys they had a chance for. On a micro-level its tough to criticize any of the picks, but at the macro level it sure would be nice to have just one of Suzuki (2017), Miller (2018) or Caufield (2019) on this team right now and in the future.

BTW, speaking of Suzuki and Caufield. Imagine if Montreal had taken Brady Tkachuk instead of Kotkienemi in 2018 like most of their fans here wanted. Talk about a filthy line that has everything you could possibly want going forward, and an average age of 21.

Kings could be drafting #12 instead of #8. :naughty:

The tweet is a little misleading, he makes it seem like Winnipeg gave up the pick outright. The full trade:

Vegas: 13th overall, 82nd overall
Winnipeg: 24th overall, (protect Enstrom who was still their top LD despite his offense drying up + shed Chris Thorburn's unwanted 1.2 mil contract)

Obviously nice trade for Vegas, but dropping down nine spots in the first round is less sexy than what the tweet implies. Winnipeg got to the Conference Finals in 2017-18 and they got nine games of home playoff revenue out of that.

Pretty sure Thornburn was going heading into UFA that summer. Think he actually signed with the Blues.

It was just funny to look back on it and part of the reasoning for the trade was to ensure Dano was not selected. Jeebus. Just never know how things will turn out with players.

My bad, I misread Thorburn's CapFriendly page and thought he had another year left on his deal.

There are a number of GMs out there who can take credit in helping the Golden Knights get to where they are.
• Alex Tuch• 2017 or 2018 third round pick (2018 #92-Connor Dewar)
• Golden Knights agreed to not select Marco Scandella or Matt Dumba in expansion draft
trade with Wild
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
• Reilly Smith• 2018 fourth round pick (#123-Jack Gorniak)trade with Panthers
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
• Shea Theodore• Golden Knights agreed to select Clayton Stoner in expansion drafttrade with Ducks
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
• David Clarkson
• 2017 first round pick (#24-Kristian Vesalainen)
• 2019 second round pick (#50-Samuel Fagemo)
• Golden Knights agreed to select William Karlsson in expansion drafttrade with Blue Jackets

Even after all the moves, still nobody had Vegas doing anything. It was, at best, maybe sneak into the playoffs that first year if everything went right. Everything went right, and they finished top 5 and in the Final instead.

Vegas was just too new of experience; an expansion team under the cap. Never been anything like it. We'll see what other teams do with Seattle.

I still don't believe they can get it done with their current group of centers but I may be wrong. They have great wingers, D, and goaltending.

The Knights hate is strong on this board, but yeah, they were the laughingstock of the league until about mid-season their inaugural year when everyone realized they were a legit contender.

18 games, which would easily be enough of a sample size for you and some others to bury him as a "midget" who "can't play playoff hockey"

Do you really think a guy making some of the plays that he is making now, in playoff games at age 20 after jumping straight onto the team from college isn't going to get even better as he gets stronger and more used to the system next season?

I mean, I understand some of the concerns and doubts coming in, just like there aren't many guys from Slovenia there aren't many guys who are 5'7, that is a fact. But come on, its obvious he is going to be a dynamic offensive star in the NHL, probably starting next season. His offensive everything is world class.

I know you like defending the little people for whatever reason but the law of averages are never on their side. It's possible that Caufield could be the next Martin St. Louis but I strongly doubt it.

easy to look good in that division Vegas or Colorado will kick the crap out of them next round

Yeah I mean I like Toffoli but he's their top scorer and realistically he should be on a good team's second line. Can't see Montreal doing much against Vegas or Colorado.
