The Canadiens suddenly find themselves in a good spot to advance to the Conference Finals.

1 game up, home ice now in their favor, and the Jets top scorer out for the next 4 games.
Bettman just wants the Canadian teams to win. Oh wait.

Right call and nice to see DOPS finally getting another call right.

What a travesty. Player with no history gets four games in the second round of the playoffs for an absolutely defensible hit.

This is how we lose the game. Those that like this can call it progress but not all reform or "progress" is positive.

This is worth two more games than Reaves--a guy with a rap sheet--going premeditated on Graves? Pathetic.

As for the quoting of Biz and the Chicklets guys, Biz didn't want a suspension but expected two. Whitney said 1-2 but would have been fine with none. Basically made every argument for no-to-small suspension that we've seen here today.

Anything more than two is ridiculous. Look at the Kadri suspensions against the Bruins. Max he could of received was five games for the second one. Guy has a record!! He would have gotten a max of five 1st round games but here is Scheifele with four second round games.

Reeks of Bettman putting his finger on the scale to keep Winnipeg out and Montreal in. I know the DoPS has the Wheel of Justice but they aren't so unpredictable to drop four games on a 1st time offender on a legit hockey play.

Absolute horseshit but that's really no barometer except for future unpredictable potential calls from DoPS. Neither side should use it as an argument for or in defense of.

Nothing about the play was a legit hockey play.Doesnt matter if he isn't a repeat offender, what he did was bullcrap..I like to see him gone for the entire series, but DOPS made the call.No place for thoses types of acts in the sport.I explained to you why it was a charge and illegal,DOPS was watching the same game I was....

Total left field here
Since the North winner will be playing the West winner and they may have to play all games in the US:
How should they handle it?
Play all the games in one place, giving the West champ (up to ) 7 home games?
Pick a neutral site for the North teams, like Staples Center or Seattle’s barn?

if they choose neutral site option , would you go to games? Would enough Canadians travel for games?

just things going through my head

It was a garbage decision not based on any rule, just saving face for one of the most savage, yet perfectly clean, hits in memory. They put optics over reality here.

Typically I think slippery slope arguments are just for worry wart handwringers, but this one is dangerous for the sport. A hit that wasn't a charge, wasn't to the head, wasn't late, and wasn't performed by a repeat offender was just punished with a playoff suspension strictly for the sake of the league's perceived image.

Tampa can sure move the puck around on the PP. Nice tic tac toe finished by Point.

Love watching them and Colorado go to work on the PP.

Thanks for explaining it to me without needing the Mayor to explain it to me as well.

It is illegal if you use the rule book literally. Thing is, they never do that for charging as "distance traveled" or "violence" are never legislated. I've already given numerous examples and, as someone with a Deadmarsh-related username, you've certainly been around hockey long enough to know that this hit would not be penalized without the injury. Were penalizing the result and the optics over the actual action and, by doing so, are making a decision to apparently change the spirit of how a rule is interpreted.

If they want to crack down on "violent" hits and start somehow taking into account how far a player travels and actually hand out charging penalties like they do slashing then fine (although I'd might have to stop watching) but, you know, do that at the start of the season so everyone is on the same page and knows the repercussions before they lose four playoff games over it.

Perfectly stated. I'm full tin foil on it though with this being a "get the Jets out of the playoffs" move because this does not seem like a Parros and the DoPS reaction. The mob gets their blood and the league has a better chance of Montreal making the "WCF". While I don't care about the Jets or the Canadiens, I do care about this hit now being considered a lengthy suspension. Every player now has to think twice about making a hit if they are going too fast.

Only positive is that the Kings appear to be ahead of the curve with how hitting will be from now on based on the last few seasons. Maybe Blake actually is a genius and is getting them used to forechecking being outlawed on a dump in early so they can take advantage.

I was actually thinking this as well, plays right into what the fans want to see too, apparently.

Also right on cue, 50 hits so far (through 2) in the Boston/NY game including some nice open ice hits and somehow nobody’s left on a stretcher as far as I know. Weird.

Has anyone decided to drive around the railroad crossing barrier, park their car on the tracks and wait for a train to come? No? Weird.

Maybe that's because NHL players rarely put themselves in a position to get obliterated so badly.

It's not personal,we just disagree....

Yep, it’s all Evans fault. What an idiot.
