Worth remembering (for those old enough to remember) that the Oilers were villified mercilessly after losing to the Kings in the "Miracle on Manchester" series. Adversity can build the character needed to win a championship. Will be interesting to see how the TML's come back next year.

Also worth remembering that 81-82 was the first time the Oilers had finished above .500 with Gretzky, and Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Kurri, Anderson, they were all 20/21 years old. Toronto has been hovering around the top of the league for 4 years or so, Matthews, Marner, 23/24, a cap luxury in Tavares that they can't move, etc.

Also worth remembering that Edmonton finished 48 points ahead of the Kings that year. It was David vs Goliath and no one was betting on David this time around. One of the biggest upsets in SC history still to this day.

Toronto finished 18 points ahead of Montreal (shortened season notwithstanding). An upset for sure but those who were watching Toronto were worried about their play over the past month of the season. Add in Price vs Campbell in goal and the injuries to Tavares and Muzzin and it seemed like the potential for an upset was there. Much less of an upset (I would argue) than Winnipeg sweeping Edmonton this year. And I agree that Toronto has a more veteran club than Edmonton did in 81-82 but they aren't ancient by any stretch of the imagination.

Tampa is $5+ million over with 19 players for 2021-2022. Something has got to give.

They could pay Seattle to take Johnson and his $5 million cap hit and they still would be over the cap with just 18 players. Someone else significant would have to go.

I wonder if johson will include Seattle on his NTC forcing tampa to waive/buy him out.

If I were him I would try and force a buy out and then sign somewhere to get two cheques.

It's my understanding that if Seattle selects Johnson in the expansion draft, that's not a trade so it can be done even with Johnson's NTC. Or tampa could pay some other team assets to buy him out.

Either way, tampa would still be over the cap with 18 players.

Montreal is fun to watch. Suzuki is good.

Another guy that was right in that range of where the Kings were picking that year. Really good as a 20 year old rookie and now looking like a real difference maker at 21, will probably explode next year.

Montreal is getting solid play from their young forwards.

Wow absolutely insane hit by Scheifele. Def. a hit that was meant to blow up an opposing player.

Always thought Scheifele had some nastiness in him. What a POS.

Completely uncalled for.

(Hard to see if it was a charge since he comes in from the left side of the screen)

Edit: Def. a charge. Without question.

Ehlers the only guy with any common sense trying to prevent the pile of humanity from getting closer to a KO'ed Evans.

There definitely seemed to be a lot of force targeted towards the head of Evans. It is tough though with the game situation, but still, those types of hits are not supposed to be legal whether it's 5-0 or 4-3.

Before anyone comes in like they always do and says "well there was no elbow" , "that is just old time playoff hockey" or "shoulder to the chin"

Checking someone in the head is illegal and has been for like 10 years.

Dumb ass play from Evans and Scheifele will of course have to pay the price.

Yes, the dumb ass play was clearly made by the guy who scored the goal to ice the game and not from the guy who was assessed the major penalty and possible suspension for doing something the league tells players every year they can't do.

Makes a ton of sense, but ok.

Targeting the head doesn't matter in this play. If he did target the head it would just add on to the repercussion.

It's one of the worst charging hits I've seen in a long time.

And at the end of the game during an empty net play.

Easy suspension.

Weber should force Scheifele have to drop the mitts when he gets back in to the series.

Wow that was vicious. Don't know if he'll get a suspension but man that was insane. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the Canadians win this series they look like they have something going. Not sure if they'll win it all but they might just pull this out. Price is showing up bigtime and as mentioned by others the Montreal kids are coming through.

Evans thought he could just waltz in front of the net with his head down and score and the Jets wouldn't be racing back to stop him -- so, yeah he's a dumb ass.
