Vegas looked like they didn't have the same amount of jump or energy. Weird how that happens after a guy gets popped for PED's. Las Vegas Golden Dad Bod's.

Fortunately for the Flyers, the Knights were flatter than a pancake and Fleury had a bad game. Should have been pulled in the first after 2 soft goals. Historically ,for him, when 1 goes in, he cracks.

If GMs could keep it in their pants he wouldn't have got what he got either. If the best offer out there was 4x4, it wouldn't matter if he was the only guy on the market, he would have signed for 4x4.

Sure, if the best offer was 4x4, but all you need is two GMs that want the same guy. Then it goes to 4.5x4, then 5x4, and it just keeps going. It's why the players wanted free agency, and fought against the cap. They know they're in demand, and will get stupid money if given the opportunity.

If GMs tied up all their cap space in young guys, eventually the 27+ UFA's would start getting less, but then teams end up using their leverage in the lack of RFA movement to get the 21 year old at a discount. They have to spend X amount though, and might not have a young player that commands huge money, so when the 27+ year old guy comes around, he gets the money because GMs are desperate for any talent.

There's no perfect solution. I guess the least complicated one is get rid of the cap, and if any teams can't survive the free market, then they just need to go. Fewer jobs for players, but oh well.

Donald Fehr? Bettman is licking his chops waiting to make a meal out of Fehr again. Maybe owners should wake up and direct their GMs to forget the quick fix (that never works).

Sure, Toronto may not get max value, but getting max value out of every trade isn't required to make a trade. For example, if the Kings are an also ran at the trade deadline, I will still be saying it's time to get something for Jeff Carter and Alec Martinez.

Nobody wants the word collusion out there.

Max value isn't required, you're right, but in a hard cap world, it tends that way. Whatever team trades for Nylander now will probably need to open cap space, but Toronto will want their cheaper young guys in return, not some decent sized contract, since they're not even close to being done with their difficult cap issues. It's tough, because it's not just about your own team with the cap. Everybody is looking for the same thing today. Unless you get an Ottawa situation, where the owner is going out of his way to shed cash.

The owners will never get rid of the salary cap, and why should they? The owners put up the capital just to have a league in which the players are privileged to participate. The players banded together to form a union and negotiate a CBA. The owners are allowed to negotiate in their best interests to create a CBA that works for them. What works for them is cost certainty up to 50% of their revenue. Collectively the owners don't care what their stupid GMs do, because they know it only costs 50% of their revenue.

I still think either the max length of contracts will go down in the next CBA negotiation, or the guaranteed contract will be a thing of the past. Either way the owners will win. They always win.

What about contracts losing their guaranteed status after 3 years? Teams can waive them, walk away and the player is free to sign wherever he likes.

Brutal number of empty seats in Detroit last night for the home opener.

Detroit was fun in the days when they had Probert, Kocur and then the later years where they were a mix of Russians and tough guys.

Now they are stuck in a half rebuild. There really is no star player or fans to gravitate too, there are some good young players though but they also have guys like Neilson, Green, Daley, and Vanek.

Does this mean that half of Staples won't be filled with bandwagon Detroit fans tomorrow?? Transplants my ass...prove it.

Exactly, that team is finally not good, so as a Kings fan in LA, it’s nice to see their over hyped fan base have some losing seasons to swallow. No doubt they’ll be competitive again once Yzerman takes over, but I think the title of hockey town should be put to rest.

This just in Pittsburgh and Toronto firing coaches, trading core etc
Wait are you saying, the Leafs cup parade hasn't been authorized by Toronto yet?

It's early tho...
Personally I don't think their defense is anywhere close to Stanley cup calibre, but who knows. With the way the league is now (soft and borderline dive fest), they could still do some damage...
I cannot believe, the Kings iced a defense of: Doughty-Muzzin, Voynov-Mitchell, Regehr-Martinez-Greene. That was a ridiculously good defense. I don't think we are going to see a defense as good as that anytime soon.
Amazing puck movers and amazing defensive defensemen.

Cryotes had a 6 on 3 with a minute to go and SUCKED! Gibson stopped 41 and got the 1-0 shutout.

They sucked badly. Even worse, their coach didn't pull the goalie for like 45 seconds when they had a 5 on 4 and 5-3..so idiotic.
