Why? They play 82.

He looked really good in the preseason too. I dig him and was hoping we would draft him so I can't be too mad yet, good for him. That Ducks powerplay that was all kids made me think of 2020. Think it was Terry, Steel, Comtois, Lindholm, Montour.

Terry reminds me of a lesser version of Jordan Schroeder with the same type of hype coming in to the league. The guy was lights out as an amateur but never really did much as a pro.

Well atleast Kovalchuk gives the Kings a winger who is as skilled as Rackell. Been awhile since we had that. Lets see how Ilya's body treats him.

And LOL at the Flames, here all summer from their fans how they aren't getting enough respect, how the attitude in the room is better, blah blah blah. It's early but this showing so far vs. a bad Vancouver team doesn't help people think they aren't going to be fools gold again this year.

But,but, but...it the winning year if you believe the Canadian media and how they make the playoffs every other year.

If this is standard EK. Then my God, he's worse than I imagined defensively.

It's a slightly below-average EK performance but that's almost exactly what you get from him. Some phenomenal stepups in the neutral zone and offensive zone to steal pucks and make plays. Some good one-on-one defense. Inconsistency on the boards. Zero focus on defensive awareness--often makes a pass then stands around waiting for play to develop before moving. Count the number of times tonight that he ended up being the 4th or last guy back into his own zone. His concept of team defense/attention to group defense is completely lacking. I'm sure it will improve as the season goes on and he gets to know his teammates, but those were the characteristic strengths and mistakes. There's no one better at quickly turning a defensive play into offense and there's no one better at offense. You just don't know if you'll get the defensive play. Like, for a guy with that insane of an offensive hockey brain and raw ability to read plays and play defense, he does not live up to near that potential nearly enough defensively. I thought that would change with a safety blanket like Vlasic but he looked almost exactly the same. I'm not at all going to say he's selfish but he's fantastic at those individual plays and not great with the team concept. But it was also obviously a bad result for the Sharks so if the score is flipped we're also talking about how much the Sharks dominated the shot count (and consequently ignoring the ugly breakdowns).

Did SJ go to them late as a pair?

Saw a Karlsson/Vlasic pairing earlier in the game.

I still think having Karlsson/Burns together in the final 5-6 minutes of a game they are a down a goal or 2 is going provide way more positives than negatives over the 82. I don't think they should be playing together at ES other than that situation though.

Yeah at the end of the game they were together, only drawback is they're both righties and if the puck gets turned over good luck. But that in theory should be terrifying, I agree. It's usually Karlsson/Vlasic, Burns/Ryan, great complements for either guy. Karlsson/Vlasic should be best in the league.

Really? Yow. I don't get that vibe at all. Terry seems much more confident and composed already. I didn't notice any hype either but I haven't been paying that much attention.

Well, I watched Karlsson in Ottawa a huge flaw in his game is that he's always caught being one of the last people to enter the defensive zone whenever there is a counter attack. He was out of position so often and unaware.

This isn't the Niedermayer - Pronger pairing that destroyed their opposition. Niedermayer was an excellent two way defenseman who would hold the puck and Pronger would hang back and cannon shots when given the opportunity. Both defenseman had great defensive awareness...

Karlsson and Burns are extremely lacking in that regard. I can't imagine how much it's going to burn them.. I can't imagine them being so solid offensively together either because they will probably end up deferring to others when on their own they were the only man for the job.

Should be interesting. Could be a catastrophic failure.

Terry is 6'1 and Schroeder is 5'9. Big difference there. Not many 5'9 guys in the league.

Terry won't be a star but he will be a solid NHL player.

Just effin glad HOCKEY is back baby! Damn so many good teams too. Would not be one bit surprised if we missed the big dance. Aint gonna lie no confidence in Stevens.

If the Ducks can go up there and win with no Kesler, no Perry and no Kase the Kings should be able to also.

Still scary to know that Karlsson and Burns will be on the points with how bad the Kings were at clearing the puck out of the zone last year. The only time you would be confident on the Kings getting it out last year is if the puck was on the stick of 11 or 8. Doing it against those guys is going to be a recipe for disaster.

1st shot should be aimed at Jones 5 hole, 2nd shot over the right shoulder.
Karlsson and Burns will cause problems, but then again they will also cause their own. Karlsson looked so lost on that one goal in front of the net.

Martin Jones looked average at best tonight.

.930sv% in the 10 games he's played in LA as a Shark.

The Sharks are 9-1 in their last 10 games in LA. The Ducks were a minute away from winning in regulation in LA last year without Getlaf, Kesler, and before the Henrique trade. It's what the Ducks do. Probably why they'll still find a way to win the division this year.

I'm expecting the Sharks to look like world beaters against the Kings on Friday. Been a while since we've seen a season opener go the Kings' way.

They didn't play great, but they did win game #1 last year. Got a nice goal from the Clifford/Shore/Lewis line.

Not the biggest Marchand fan but love that he beat the shit out of Eller (I think it was Eller) after he taunted the Bruins bench after the 7th goal.

Good first night of hockey. The Montreal Toronto game was a lot of fun to watch. Price looked good as did the Leaf forwards.

key to beating the sharks is definitely staying out of the box

people only care because it's marchand

eller earned every bit of that, and he had every chance to drop his gloves but chose not to. marchand could've just as easily domi'ed him but he gave him a chance
