Doughty's raise comes from eventually getting rid of Gaborik's contract.

I asked about what the RFAs would sign for in a different thread and the only response back was Kings4thecup saying an average of $1 million. This can be done.

2018 not next season

Brown--Kopitar--Carter 5,875,000--10,000,000--5,272,727 = 21,147,727
Toffoli--Tavares--Pearson 6,000,000--10,000,000--3,500,000 = 19,500,000
Kempe--Dowd--Brodzinski 894,167--2,000.000 (RFA)--1,000,000 (RFA) = 3,894,000
Mersch--Shore--Lewis 1,000,000--1,000,000--2,000,000 = 4,000,000
Total: 48,541,727

Forbort--Doughty 2,000,000--7,000,000 =9,000,000
LaDue--Muzzin 1.000.000--4,000.000 =5,000,000
Gravel--Martinez 1,000.000--4,000,000 =5,000,000
Total: 19,000,000

Quick 5,800,000
campbell 1,000,000
Total: 6,800,000

Total: 74,341,727

Remember Daly said the cap could be $75.5 - $76 million for 2017-2018.

Edit: Doughty money could also come from trading Martinez.

You already don't have Gaborik there. You're going to be relying on players making under $1 million every season like Chicago. Muzzin gone. Martinez gone. Forbort eventually gone. LaDue eventually gone. Can't afford to pay these guys $4+ million with all those top heavy deals.

If Kempe or Brodzinski turn out to be anything good then you're going to have to pay them too. Or if they don't then your depth is crap.

Interesting to see if Edmonton can get to the West finals.

They are a speedy team but also heavy. New NHL?

Who does Edmonton have that's really that fast besides McDavid? Their defense certainly doesn't have the speed the Ducks defense has (not that they're slow but they're all good rather than great skaters). They just play fast. That's how the Kings played in 2012-14. Big but play extremely fast.

Yeah, that's the point I guess. Robitaille alluded to them as a model for LA.

They are also going through two teams built to contend with what LA was.

I still think LA can be a contender next year if they stay healthy and find a way to be a little more creative/fast team play.

Kings just have to transition up the ice faster. We saw they could play that way in that 3 year period. So what if they give up more scoring chances against. That's what Quick is for. Can't play in a shell all the time and praying the opponent can't score more than 2 goals on 25 shots.

Maybe Edmonton should sign Adam Oates, Mike Peca, Jarret Stoll and Shawn Horcoff to help them on faceoffs.

According to Mike Johnson on the NHL Network, they're the most overrated part of the game. He said it doesnt matter how bad the Oilers are, as long as they can score 5 on 5 or whatever, they'll win. :shakehead

I understand that. And that is exactly what the Blackhawk model is. Top heavy and trade out players as they have played/priced them off the team. The point is Friedman specifically mentioned Los Angeles when discussing several teams keeping an eye on JT. And this is why. The kings can fit him in. I've also seen people here tossing out numbers for Toffoli/Pearson that are lower than what I've penciled in.

Between now and when Doughty's contract is up, there are 3 years of cap increases. The last time the cap was flat aside from the lockout effects was in 2009-10. And that was off data accumulated during the greatest financial crisis since the end of WWII.

This is his actual quote.

I’m not going to guess what he’ll do, but it’s safe to surmise that several teams will hold their off-season plans until there is some clarity. Tavares will be able to pick his spot should he choose to go, but even if you get a seat at the table you've got to have cap room and the players to make a trade work.

If you’re Detroit, Los Angeles, Montreal, San Jose, Tampa Bay or Toronto (although I’m not sure it can actually work there anymore), aren’t you waiting to see where this is going?

He specifically singled out the Kings and expressed doubts for Toronto as more than just a "of course all the other NHL teams are interested".

All teams that are aging, cap strapped, need a infusion. Just quess work. Every team will make a pitch for him.

Williams said something to the effect of luck is for losers while he was here. God I can't love that man any more.

I still remember when Mitchell was tapping him with stick trying to break his focus prior to a game in 14.

I remember thinking how awesome it was to have both those guys on the team.

I've noticed him most of the year, but boy is Brady Skjei shaping into a really solid defenseman. He' s been pretty good for the so far in the post season.

Was wondering how he'd look in the playoffs. If it weren't for McDonagh being amazing himself, Skjei would be their best d-man. He's developed nicely.

I remember being really impressed with him in the World Juniors several years ago. I believe him and Nick Kerdiles were the ones I was most impressed with that year.
