Doughty's deal just keeps getting more scary. He'll be 29 when his new deal starts and turn 30 in Dec of that year.

They likely had to do it but seems a little long but so far their fan base is fine with it.

I agree, he will be looking at the PK Subban contract and than say, adjust for inflation and 2 cups. If drew signs for less than $9.5 it will be a miracle.

That's gonna look bad in a few years, but I get it. Kinda had to do that.

They're gambling on him being the guy of the last 70ish games and not the previous hundreds...recency bias everywhere. Curious what he'll look like when his offense inevitably regresses...

he has been elite for a lot more than 70 games, his beard finally gave him recognition. Made people look at him and then once they were they realized how good he is.

even the year they missed the playoffs he was still a stud.

I still want Doughty to buy an In-N-Out franchise.

Ah, see, I knew it was one of the ghosts on the team that suddenly scored a goal in a game we didn't actually want them to.

You mean something you can't buy?
They are all corp stores and last time I knew for sure they had no plans of ever franchising. I know of businesses that have approached them even that were turning down. I'm talking personal knowledge here not through the grapevine type things.

Offensively, sure. Defensively, he was a flat out liability. That's something he shored up last year. You don't give 8 million a year to a guy who you're scared to have on the rink protecting a lead in the last minute.

Change of strategy... I want Doughty to become a manager at an In-N-Out store when he retires.

I know the Expansion Draft stuff has been beaten to death but here is another question or maybe even answer ...
Looking at CapFriendly, I was browsing at our cap and stumbled onto their Expansion Tool..
Now the tool seems very straight forward and legit in laying out who meets the requirements for exposure, who does not and whether or not Toffoli and Pearson would need to be protected....

According to the tool both Toffoli and Pearson would be excluded from the protection list although LV could still reach out and make an offer being RFAs....

So assuming this is true, all the bricking going on here over the Amart topic is null because you could protect;
Kopitar
Carter
Dowd
Doughty
Muzzin
Martinez
McNabb
Forbort
Quick

While forcing LVs hand by only exposing Brown, Gaborik, Clifford, Greene and Lewis....oh yeah and Nolan, almost forgot he existed.....

Exactly, if they are not protected and Vegas chooses 1 they get his rights. Nice try Kings11.

I'm pretty sure the only position that can be drafted in expansion is a RFA goalie with a qualifying offer..
Hence, I stated it's either another question or a rally good answer to what we've been asking...
Yes, Toffoli and Pearson meet the requirements about playing time and years, however they lack a contract and the rule specifically state that the player must be under contract for "at least" the inaugural season or beyond, which neither has....
This is why I'm guessing the NHL is allowing LV to negotiate with UFAs/RFAs before the draft and if they sign a player away then that team becomes exempt from the draft... Why would we need to protect both Tyler and Tanner if LV can still sign them away ???? It doesn't make any sense......

Kings will look hard at going 4 and 4 rather than 7 and 3 or whatever the option of having more forwards.

We have Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez and McNabb.

At forward, the only guys worth keeping are Carter, Kopitar, Pearson and Toffoli. Everyone else is expendable unless Dowd is eligible to be claimed...

I don't think the Kings would mind losing Gaborik, Brown, Clifford, King, Lewis, Nolan, etc.. Seto and Purcell are UFA's.

Where does Andreoff stand?

Andreoff is a RFA....

Dowd is eligible and kings cannot afford to lose him. If DL protects McNabb over Forbert he's an imbecile.

You have to look at what the consequences of losing a player does to the team. The Kings won't be able to replace Dowd with some equivalent that they can afford not to mention the team is barely hanging on for a competent 4th line center.

I don't think it's as simple as just protecting guys, I think GM's know McPhee and his tendencies. If DL was trying to decide whether to protect Forbort or McNabb, I doubt it would be just which one he wanted to keep. It would be more like which would McPhee be more likely to target, what other defensmen will be available, what styles the available guys play, and so on.

For example, if there's a ton of SAH types available, a guy with even some offensive upside would be highly likely to be taken.

I wonder if Evander Kane would be a good fit on this team??? Cap hit is high but we now have a Dman surplus.....

No. He is a player that thrives off the rush. Straight line player. He is horrible in the cycle game (kings bread and butter). His vision and hockey sense are terrible. Not good in battles either. He needs to play on an up tempo team with a great transition game (think pittsburgh, edmonton, tampa bay) to be at his best. He will not fit in in LA.

Not much out there then that we could conceivable trade for....

I wonder if Sutter has changed his mind on playing rookies now that Forbort, Dowd and Gravel are playing well??? Maybe we see Kempe and Amadio on that 4th line because it can't be any worse..(ok maybe not Amadio yet)..

No GM is going to gamble on someone's tendencies. This draft is a unique situation anyway so tendencies may not be relevant at all. I could see DL trying to turn 1 or more of his left-handed D's into a right hander. Chances are Vegas will end up with more dmen than they will want to keep so they will be ready and willing to wheel and deal. It won't be cheap though, because everyone else will be in on it.

ARRRGH.

This myth will never die. Someone please stake it in the heart, chop off its head, burn up the corpse, and dump the charred husk into the nearest volcano.

Sutter plays rookies. Sutter has always played rookies.

King and Nolan came up during the stretch run and got big minutes right on through the playoffs.

Same with Toffoli and a year later Pearson.

Oh, but what about on defense? Jake Muzzin.

Die, Myth, Die!

not really a myth guy, Sutter likes big bodied players that can play his style of play. Dowd was the first who didn't fit that banger role and wasn't sent down after making mistakes like a Vey/Weal were.

He needs to open his eyes and realize skill players are needed and guys like Kempe/Amadio/Mersch are a lot better options now than Clifford/Nolan/King....

https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-expansion-draft-rules/c-281010592

The Las Vegas franchise must select one player from each presently existing club for a total of 30 players (not including additional players who may be acquired as the result of violations of the Expansion Draft rules).

The Las Vegas franchise must select a minimum of 20 players who are under contract for the 2017-18 season.

What the Kings need to have available for Vegas at minimum is 1 goalie signed for 17-18, 1 dman under contract for 17-18, and 2 forwards under contract for 17-18, with a certain number of games for each player. Vegas can potentially take 10 RFA's left unprotected, and if either Toffoli or Pearson is on that list, one will be in Vegas.

According to the tool both Toffoli and Pearson would be excluded from the protection list although LV could still reach out and make an offer being RFAs

What you're probably looking at is the players shaded in green? Those are the guys that meet that minimum, but anyone not on that exempt list can be taken if unprotected.

Sure he plays rookies -- when injuries compel him.

Contract status plays a part in who is on the team almost as many times as talent. There are a bunch of vets playing in Ontario already, because of the lack of young players with all the trades in recent years. Teams in the AHL need a certain number of young guys in the lineup each game. It's not just a dumping ground for bad players or contracts, it's primarily about development.

If Clifford/Nolan/King are that bad, no other team is going to want them in a trade, and the Kings specifically have a more difficult time than some other teams might have in sending them to the minors, and calling up multiple prospects at the same time.

Sure he plays rookies -- when injuries compel him.

Almost as if Sutter is like the vast majority of coaches. If not all of them at the pro level. They'll usually play rookies when either injuries happen, or, the roster is set up by the GM to be based heavily on young guys, or, space on the roster is open for a specific young player, like when McDavid comes along or something like that.

Find a team where rookies rule the day because coaches just love them.

What a cluster-**** that announcement was. Holy...

Was like watching your grandfather try to play back his PVR'd Matlock episodes on a TV he'd never used before.
