WJC was making me physically ill from the drama (or perhaps it was the Subway sandwich). Shame that it had to go to shootout. Hats off to the kids on both sides, you could tell in OT that many of them were skating on fumes.

This, 1000%

That OT was the best period of hockey I've seen in a long time. It's one of the reasons I love the WJC, to see these kids, from every country, leaving it all on the ice. NHL has a bright future with kids like these growing well

Really impressed with Thomas Chabot and CHaRLIE McAvoy, the SEns and Bruins have themselves 2 stud defensemen to look forward to. I think McAvoy has a shot at making the team next year.

And I was rooting for USA but props to Carter Hart, a Flyers prospect, who played so well for Canada. I can't imagine the pressure on a goalie in OT of a goal medal game in WJC. ANd it came down to 1 shootout goal. Flyers have several good goalies (including Felix Sandstrom from Sweden who got best goalie in the tourny award) in their farm system. Future bright in goal .

I feel bad for the Canadian kids who had the weight of the entire country on their shoulders. Sadly a few fans took to social media to harass a few players after the loss.

Definitely agreed with Chabot as the tournament MVP. McAvoy anchored the US blue line, especially with Ryan Lindgren unable to play last night. Going into the summer showcase a few months back, I was worried that the US defense looked thin on paper but they exceeded my expectations.

I was happy to see Kieffer Bellows with a big game as well. He had a tough tournament up to that point to go along with a tough freshman year at BU.

Hopefully for my keeper league team, Alex Lyon gets in the conversation at some point. Flyers had a good crop in this tournament. Philippe Myers looked great, it's too bad he got concussed on the hit from Kunin.

Lyons got the chance to start in 10 straight games, when Stolarz was called up to back up Mason. Had a rough start but hopefully will turn that around. And Myers (who I am looking forward to seeing in a couple years in a Flyers jersey) was having a great year, 24 pts in 31 games and +24 which is 5th best in the league and 2nd among QMJHL defensemen. I hope the concussion doesn't set him back, he was playing so well. And started the WJC well. Hexy said that Myers was doing well and expects he'll be back playing for the Huskies soon. He'll make Morin expendable, he's a younger version with more talent and upside. And Morin, Sandheim and Haag are all in the same phase and standing as far as time in, can't keep them all.

THe Flyers had 9 players in the WJC, other than the 2 goalies and Myers, from what I saw of Vorobyov, center for team Russia, played well, had a pile of assists and looked good. He uses his size well.

Watching the USA - Canada finale, I kept thinking of all the North Americans that were playing in the NHL instead and what a difference that might have made.

Due to years of watching pro wrestling, I fully expected dramatic theme music to hit right before puck drop and Auston Matthews/Mitch Marner would skate onto the ice to join the game.

Long night for the Devils, Leafs up 4-0 after 1 period. Kincaid coughs up 4 goals on 9 shots. Not pretty.
Matthews gets #21. Leafs have a ridiculous group of young forwards. In addition to Nylander, Marner and Matthews, Connor Brown and HYman are playing really well and contributing. I'm really curious to see what Papa Lou and SHanny do with JVR and some of the prospects to upgrade the defense.

On one hand, JVR as part of a package should get them that, and if they feel they are a playoff team (I think they make the WC) a defenseman would help but losing JVR might hurt. He's a veteran whose not only been in a the playoffs but plays well there. Dreger said over the weekend that one team called the Leafs to see if they were on his no trade list but that was as far as it got. He seemed to think that unless they get a deal that knocks them out, JVR will stay for the season and get dealt after.

I would be shocked if any teams make big trades, with the EXP draft looming.

The draft is set up, so that teams lose some good young players.

I agree, I think for that and CAP reasons, the GM's will be playing it close to the vest. However, sometimes you Fate intervenes. Not like the Habs were deep at center to begin with and now, Gallagher out for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Currently down the middle are Danault, Plekanac, Mitchell and McCarron. THey might not have a choice.

Duchene would fill the bill and the Habs have a bunch of 1st and 2nd round picks over the next 2 years they could use, but they'd have to take salary back to make it work for the Habs. And the Avs are looking for a top young defenman, and I don't see that in Montreal
But I think they'll try to land a center, 8 weeks is a long time.

I've seen some lazy drivers during the winter after snowstorms, who don't clean their cars off ,but this driver takes the cake.

PHoto from the RCMP who pulled him over...unbelievable.....he's lucky he didn't hit somebody or get T-boned because of no visibility.

The amount of stupid that exists in the world is well beyond anyone's ability to comprehend it.

Just think about that next time you get onto that freeway, traveling at 60+ MPH, with all the stupid that is out there looking for you. :naughty:

Canucks and Kings have the same number of regulation wins.

When you have :

Kopitar-10 million (injured?, and massively disappointing)
Brown- 5.875 million (he's Brown)
Gaborik- 4.875 million (Worse than Purcell production)
Muzzin- 4 million (forgot how to play hockey? What happened to him this year?)
Quick- 5.8 million (injured)

We are lucky to be where we are, you can't have this much cap tied up in injured and underperforming players

People keep saying the Pacific is weak but it's not aside from Arizona.

So little room for error.

Kings are giving it a valiant effort but I don't think they are consist enough to stay in the mix. Especially when not firing on all cylinders.

Could get hot enough for a black hole pick.

Anything can happen if you actually make the playoffs I guess.

Depends on how you look at it. Arizona is bad, the Kings and Canucks are -5 and -7 in terms of W/L in regulation, but holding steady thanks to OT/SO, and Calgary ends more games in regulation than most other teams, but they have 5 more wins in regulation than both the Kings and Canucks.

The division is better than it's been though.

People consistently say that about the Pacific but other than Chicago the WCF/SCF has been all Pacific teams for years, no?

Had to wonder how the jackets would react after losing. If the first five minutes are any indication very well.

They'd react like they did with winning, you play the game an onto the next. They are a very good team, close team and realize that there are 82 in a season.

And that streak is a distraction when it gets that long, consumed by media, hype, questions and reporters asking about it. They are playing a very good , solid game tonight, just like they do on most nights.
THey lost, they moved on.
Simple as that.

The top end is good. Kings, Ducks, Sharks. The bottom 4 are weak. Edmonton was trash before this season (no McDavid most the season last year). Calgary, Vancouver, and Arizona are all in the bottom 7 of the NHL.

From Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts column

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-manage-bad-luck/

Starts off by talking about the bad luck the Bruins are having with most of their forwards not named Pastrnak (shooting 17%) having terrible years. The Bruins are the worst shooting % team in the NHL at 6.9%, however in shots taken they are #1

What’s worse is that if you believe shots taken is a true indicator of possession, no one does it better. You name it — missed, blocked, unblocked, on goal — the Bruins have the highest percentages as compared to their opponents. The Bruins take 54.5 per cent of all shots in games they play, slightly better than number-two Los Angeles.

You have to think with them being in the Wild Card hunt , if their luck doesn't change, they'll make a move for a forward to try to change it.

4. Will anything actually happen? This week’s frustrated quote from a GM: “I don’t know why we’re calling each other. No one is doing anything.” (As always, no one quoted here is used as an anonymous source.)

And that I think is the crux of the trade market. Expansion Draft and Cap having GM's keeping it very close to the vest.

I didn't know this...Trevor Lewis should have been a Flyer (Hexy's input ) , except the Kings took him first, (newly arrived Hexy's input ) so the Flyers got stuck with Claude Giroux, and that is why in infamous videoclip, Clarke forgot his name, Lewis had been the player he was ready to take.

20. Finally on Philadelphia, Doug MacLean told a great story about why Bob Clarke tripped up on Giroux’s name when the Flyers took him 22nd overall in 2006. According to MacLean, Philly was going to take Trevor Lewis. But the Kings took Lewis 17th, which annoyed Philadelphia, since Hextall had just left for California. Clarke was flustered.

The Flyers play the Blue Jackets in Columbus tonight. During the pregame show, they noted that the last time the Flyers won a game in Columbus, Peter Forsberg score a goal (2005)

That's a drought...
