"If you want loyalty, buy a dog" - Marc Bergevin on whether he expected loyalty from Radulov after taking a chance on him last year.

Kuznetsov signs an LTC with the CAPS, just under 8M per x 8 .

He'll have plenty of money to spend on golf every April.
Has shown very little when in counts in the playoffs....

BREAKING! #Caps have re-signed center @Kuzya92 to an eight-year, $62.4 million contract. #RockTheRed

The Caps have less than $5M in cap space and only 15 players signed, gotta be a move coming.

tow of those are Grubauer and Burakovsky , something indeed has to give.

For all the cash they laid out on Oshie, Kuznetsov and Orlov, it doesn't change anything. Without a stud center and some leadership, and now they have holes in their d, they are going backwards.

And Carlson's on the last year of his deal, he's 27 and you would think he'd take a lifeboat off the Titantic he's a pretty good d, and would be a good fit on just about any team

So many awful deals being handed out that will handcuff many teams. That Oshie deal is terrible and will get worse every year.

Kuznetsov's turning 26 and his highest goal output was a couple years ago , 20 goals. I've seen quite a few of their games the last 3 yrs and he didn't impress me and certainliy not to the tune of 7.8M per.

And you have to think Ryan Johansen's cash register just went 'ding ding' for next year.
When you consider just how much better a player , at every aspect of the game and leadership in spades that Tavares is, he's gonna get a mint.

Bingo- MJ moved out. I wonder if Blake knew about that, or even made a call. Not much for pretty good 3C who can also play wing

Adding MJ will help the Devils, Ray Shero doing pretty good , Hall last year and now Nico some more forward depth. MJ put up 58 Pts last year and plays all 3 forward positions , 4.5M per yr , pretty good value. good work ethic as well.

Guess Bergevin was too busy adding unnecessary zero's to Price's check and missed this. MJ would have helped them, as they are weak in the middle.

Can't imagine the Caps fans are very happy with this move, he was a very popular player and that IMO is not fair value.

That Price contract is HORRENDOUS!! You simply cannot give that contract to a goalie in a salary cap league like this is. For the seasons between 18-19 and 21-22, Montreal will be paying Price (31-34 years old), Alzner (30-33 years old), and Weber (33-36 years old) a combined 23 million against the cap

Price is arguably the best player in the league. Moreover, goalies age like wine. No reason he can't be just as good at 37 as he is today (or damn close). Those other contracts though...

Big cap hit for Jumbo, but being a one-year deal makes it more plausible than that Marleau contract.

17 teams felt he was worth it...

No else is shocked but Thornton is humble to the bone. 17 teams phoned. He was taken off guard.

Hearing that San Jose's final position with Marleau was that Sharks were willing to go $10 M over 2 yrs...

Le Brun thinks that Thorton would have taken less if Marleau stayed.

I know I'm in the minority here but I understand why the Leafs got Marleau ((who by the way it pretty durable, 31 games los tin his entire career and none in the last 4 yrs) They weren't going to resign/keep Bozak or JVR and with Hainsey, Moore and Marleau they get the veteran presence that was lacking in the playoffs. For all the excitement (I enjoyed them, that series vs the Caps was outstanding) that young team of talent brought, they had (like a lot of green playoff teams) 3rd period letdowns and didn't have lockdown ability. NOw the vets they added will help there.

And Marleau, despite his age, is a pretty good winger, you put him with Matthews and Marner, and that's a pretty good line.

Meanwhile Sakic is trying to get an arm and a leg for Duchene.

I wonder what this says about Duchene's value. Johansson and him are fairly comparable. Both 26. Both signed through this season and next.

Honestly if I was the Caps I would've been exploring the trade market for Ovechkin. Four more years at 9.5M.

Bergevin is a dumbass, but that quote about loyalty is pretty good.

Marleau's deal is ****ing ridiculous for a guy his age, BUT as long as it doesn't hurt them when they have to extend their young guys I guess it's not that bad.

Yeah, for sure. The Caps are finished. Last year was their last chance, and that Oshie contract is idiotic.

You can't rely on free agency anymore. It's always been third in line, but I don't even consider it an option anymore. These GMs are out of there minds. Too many loser teams overpaying for average players.

The importance of drafting well can't be overstated.

I don't think he's going to be as good at 37 as he is now, esp in the today's NHL and even if he were , he's not worth 10.5, no goalie is. And it cripples the team.

It's not good for the NHL , and now has set the same ridiculous bar for goalies that Toewes set for centers.

And until his GM understands that overpaying for PRice (or any goalie) won't get you a Cup, he'll be an elite Reg season netminder, making a mint.

Ted Leonsis won't allow that to happen.

Agree and that's why it got really old in last yr's playoffs and this years showing him in the pressbox , when the Pens were celebrating , looking like somebody shot his dog.

They'll never win as long as Ovie is there. And the moves they have made are puzzling. They have 9 players to sign and 9M to do it.

It amazes me how stupidly GMs react around July 1 every year. Not just July 1 though as you pointed out with Oshie.

Oshie
Price
Marleau
Bonino

...and more, all getting more term and money than a GM should give and still hope to win.

Got Johansson for FLA's 2nd (from eating Savard contract) + TOR's 3rd (Lamoriello hiring). NJD still have all of their own 2018 picks.

I actually like the Bonino deal. I think he can find another gear and flourish behind RJ. I think he can hit 20/30-35 in an expanded role. There was a cap on his potential and role in Pittsburgh. I think he's really grown as a player these last few years. I also like that it's only 4 years.

I like it too and I think given the strong transitional game their top 4 d play, Bonino's speed will be real asset.
