Around the League '16-'17 Other Teams' Free Agent Frenzy

Last hockey game of the season just about to wrap up as the Toronto Marlies lead the Texas Stars 6-1 in Game 7 of the Calder Cup Final.

Marlies have Vinny LoVerde on their team.
I was hoping for the stars to win... at least to be able to say the Reign lost to the eventual champions. I honestly was happy for Vinnie to raise that cup.

I listened to Macramella's discussion on Karlsson/Hoffman and the criminal/civil implications. It's incomplete. He didn't even discuss the immigration issues. One of the allegations made by Karlsson is that the person harassing them bought and used hacked accounts.

Computer hacking is a Crime Involving Moral Turpitude. That has US immigration implications. It can be an entry bannable offense. If Hoffman was involved in what his gf was alleged to be doing, the worst case scenario is he gets an entry ban.

Macramella is not an immigration lawyer. At the very least, he should have mentioned immigration issues in his analysis.

This is another reason why I say I don't want Hoffman on the Kings. We've had enough players with actual or probable immigration issues.

I don't know what the **** Bergevin is thinking. Galchenyuk is much better than Domi and trades yet another player away for a winger. I just can't see the justification for this.

I get that Domi is an RFA and Galchenyuk is do to be a UFA in 2 years, but this still looks bad for Montreal. Domi is a second line winger a best.

I also think that Domi is a bad fit for the Montreal market. He was a whipping boy for Arizona fans at times. Wait until the Montreal media and fans turn on him. It's not going to end well.

The only answer I have is maybe Montreal got wind that Galchenyuk would leave as soon as he could - like the rumblings about Pacioretty.

Domi is under team control for longer.

Can someone please explain to me how Marc f***ing Bergevin has a job still? This guy is AWFUL and happens to be in one of the most high pressure/worst markets in North American sports. The same market that hires based almost entirely on bilingual abilities, tolerates this guy???

Off the top of my head some of his greatest hits -

Trades Sergachev for Drouin. Really makes no sense.

So desperate to add sandpaper that he gives Shaw that massive deal. Shaw's probably done. Guy can't keep up with the NHL.

Trades Subban for Webber. A total head scratcher. Webber's contract is frightening. Subban was the better player then, now, and going forward.

Gives Price arguably the worst contract in the league. Even at his peak it's still too much, factor in his awful season last year and it can get really bad really fast.

Look at the roster they have, it's a couple decent players and a giant group of nobodies. What is this team? I don't even know what this recent trade is accomplishing, more grit? Galchenyuk is compared to a Kopitar-lite when entering the draft and Montreal has no center depth. I don't get it, hard to imagine this guy is employed making millions.

You possibly answered your own question.

When I first saw the deal, I figured Arizona was adding a pick or prospect. Guess not.

No bueno, Bergevin.

Just a hot mess right now in both Montreal and Ottawa.

If Gally can return to previous form and is allowed to play center, Arizona wins the trade.

I actually like Domi and don't see the gap as that wide between the two right now. Domi needs to find his coring touch again. Montreal sure does love/hate its small wingers.

I dunno, I am rather enjoying watching the Canadiens over the last 3 or 4 years. I am fine with them sucking.

Return to what form? I know I am in the minority here but I see this as even, no advantage to either team. two players that needed a change. I have never been a fan of Galchenyuk's , he's decent 2nd line winger, but has holes in his game which were exposed at center. He also is an "I" player, not a 'we' player. Being rated 'top' before you hit the NHL and playing in the NHL is not the same. He might thrive in AZ, time will tell. But he's had 6 yrs and he's still the same player.

Don't like Bergevin, or the rest of the front office. They've been trying to move Galchenyuk for awhile, and I'd be curious to see what trades they turned down. I like Domi, he's a better 2 way player and I think his PPG is fine for a guy whose less than 250 games. I'm not sure if Montreal is the right place for his game to grow but the climate in AZ didn't suit him. The Habs signed him to a 2 yr extension, for 3.1 M per.

And the Habs are one of the teams in the ROR hunt as well.

Galchenyuk is a lot like Toffoli in my eyes. Has underachieved lately.

Galchenyuk looked good centering Radulov and Patches.

It’s when he moved to wing that his game tanked.

He still young, put up 30 goals in the league already. Domi score 9 goals in each of the past two seasons.

I’m not big on Galchenyuk but he has upside.

That’s the problem right there. The Habs kept trying to play him as a winger when he is a centre. Don’t fit a square peg into a round hole.

I believe the year he potted 30 goals he played at predominantly at centre, I could be wrong.

To me he’ll be a better fit out in the desert than Domi will in Montreal.

It shows there is no direction in the Habs franchise if they have interest in ROR as you say, they should be rebuilding and restocking their system, not going after a guy like him, who I personally think is overrated.

How the f*** is Bergevin still employed is beyond me.

He also discarded guyes like Eller and DSP and gave Alzner a pretty bad deal.
