Yet another goal from a "bottom six" line. And another pretty one at that. I'll be happy when the Kings are capable of making a play like that from a line that doesn't have Kopitar or Carter.

Vegas is getting picked apart by these cross ice back door plays.

Honestly, this is the first time they’ve looked somewhat “exposed,” at least in the sense of an identifiable weakness (defensive coverage in the triangle around the dots and home plate).

Eller with 3 points tonight, pushing him up to 17 points in 21 games in these playoffs. Not bad for a third line center.

He does play on the PP, but he should have just picked up another point at ES.

It's just night and day when you compare their skill at the bottom of the lineup vs. ours. Kopitar is much better than anyone on either team (yes even Ovi), but the difference in depth is eye opening.

Interesting quote from Gallant, before he even knew what his team would look like.

Gerard Gallant talks about type of team he wants Golden Knights to be - Sportsnet.ca

Gallant used his third and fourth lines more than any other coach.

He also sent three sets of forwards pairs regularly on the PK, led by Nosek and Bellemare, who play on their fourth line. The second forward pair was Karlsson and Smith, and the third pair of forwards on the PK were made up of their third liners, Eakin and Carpenter.

It goes to show you how having confidence in his players played a big role in them playing above whatever was expected of them. Meanwhile, John Stevens cut his bench short to the point where the top players had no gas left in the tank.

I doubt Kopitar, Brown, or Doughty complain about more playing time. Especially Brown. All 3 had career highs in points. Without Carter. As long as they're happy, it's all good. This is what they wanted. That's why Stevens has the job.

Gallant can go in there and do whatever he wants. There's no ego on that roster. There's no big contracts. There's no past success. If winning becomes a more regular thing for the Knights, and they have to start shelling out some money, we'll see how things change. They usually do.

Any team going deep in the playoffs needs at least one guy that hits above his weight class for a while.

Dumb, yes, but Miller sold that one too.

Like Eddie said on the broadcast and I have said 10000x times when people complain about the refs, don't even give them a chance to make that call. Just skate away. You're up 3-1 late in the 2nd in the Stanley Cup Finals with your leading scorer injured.

Just zero zero zero game sense in that spot.

So stop playing hockey then? Miller looked over, saw Oshie was coming, and sold the call knowing the refs were calling it tonight.

Exactly. Next season, and when big paydays come will have a big effect. The 2019 season will be bigger than this season, with huge expectations to prove this wasn't a fluke.

Which is exactly what people predicted for both the Caps and Knights at the start of the season.

Their team is basically made up of 2nd liners.

Ovechkin, Backstrom and Kuznetsov are star players, but you are right, skilled players throughout the roster. I am hoping that the Kings can do something like that, I could see Kempe and Amadio developing into the types of players who can score big goals from the 3rd or 4th line. That will be the easier part, the hard part will be finding the 30 goal winger we will need in addition to better skill in the lower lines.

Both teams have obviously overachieved this season, but the Kings issues were apparent for a long time, the lack of emphasis on adding skill and speed to the lineup for the better part of a decade has shown through the last four years.

It may me surprising that a team like Vegas is this good, but it's not surprising that the Kings have had a world of trouble scoring goals for so long.

That wasn't a hockey play, not even close. Miller threw a hit that is very rarely going to be called a penalty, and the ref saw Oshie react to it with blatant interference to settle a score.

Don't know where the "don't play hockey" take comes from to be honest, sure they could have called embellishment, but either way it was a selfish penalty on Oshie late in the 2nd in the offensive zone of a game his team is up 3-1 in. As a veteran player he should know better.

Their team is basically made up of 2nd liners.

Going into the season, they had 2 forwards with 20+ goals last year. They had 4 forwards that had between 37 and 51 points last year, with really no centers to speak of, outside of a Russian that ended up back in Russia before anyone could blink. No other player on the roster, F or D, broke 26 points. Nobody saw this coming. Before the year started, they had worse numbers than what the Kings will be going into next season with.

Oshie was trying to get to the front of the net and gave Miller a small shove in the back. Wasn't blatantly trying to get Miller back. He was doing his job and the ref rewarded a dive.

I do think they're already starting to address this with the influx of the younger guys, but part of the problem lies who we've drafted. The guys drafted for the Sutter style of play have proven unable to compete in a faster league and can only contribute by being good at checking. This won't fly anymore.

See the 2012 & 2014 Kings. Pretty loaded at the top but also got key contributions from lesser lines, think the King/Stoll/Williams line in 2014. It's not rocket science what it takes to win in the playoffs.

You can't hit a guy who doesn't have the puck. Oshie was getting a penalty either way. Could/Should it have been both going off? Sure. But think of the game situation, why is Oshie taking an offensive zone penalty there in a 3-1 game?

It's senseless. Don't even give him a chance to dive.

That 5v3 play with two forwards below the goal line is so unbelievably awful I can’t believe professional coaches actually use it.
