That reminds me of this classic video... Jets fans were always right!
That's a classic. NFL Network had a series of draft retrospectives. Interesting detail on the 1995/Sapp draft that I didn't know before last week:
The Jets infamously took Kyle Brady at #9 over Sapp. The Bill Belichick Browns were going to take Brady at #10. Instead they traded out of the spot to the 49ers who then took J.J. Stokes. Even as a kid, I remember the roar of the crowd. Ie, holy crap, the 49ers just got a franchise WR.
Meanwhile, the Browns would move to Baltimore the year after. With one of the picks from the trade, they ended up taking Ray Lewis.
I really miss rolling out of bed on a Saturday morning and watching the first round of the draft. Ever since it moved to prime time, it hasn't been the same for me. 2010 was the first year and I tried to avoid spoilers. I thought I was safe to listen to non-sports radio on the drive home, but the DJ promptly spoiled it for me. In 2012, the draft was going concurrently against Devils-Panthers game 7.
...and mix in the whole Chargers thing and it just isn't the same.
Can someone explain to me ANY scenario where Kopitar doesn’t win the Selke without the “MUH EAST COAST HOCKEY” narrative? That is Kopitar’s award this year.
I try not to get too worked up about awards, especially one voted on by the writers. I do enjoy that the writers voted to make everybody's votes public, if only to out the handful of lazy writers.
Every year for Selke, you get some weirdo votes. Ie, the forward with the best +/- gets votes whether or not they're good defensively. I gave up years ago when Thomas Vanek got a dozen votes for Selke and then was benched late in playoff games because they coaches didn't trust him to protect a lead. I wish I could bet on Jonathan Marchessault getting a handful of Selke votes.
