Canes beat Bolts in OT meaning a Boston win tomorrow gets them 1st place.

Tampa Bay is ripe for the picking in the first round regardless of opponent.

Giroux has a hat trick against the hapless Rangers and it's making him a shoe-in.

Meanwhile Kopitar has 4 goals head to head vs. another MVP candidate completely shutting him down in a must-win game and it's "meh."

Could of swore I saw Milbury promoting Kopitar during the NBC postgame. Saw the video montage and they were discussing him but my kid was yelling so I didn’t hear the whole convo.

Damn kids!

My favorite time of year is garbage time where everyone makes assumptions that teams playing with no pressure will be great, like Arizona and Edmonton. I'm also leery of players who pick up so many points in garbage time. McDavid is the best player in the league, but it's no coincidence his production took off after elimination. He's hard to play against in a "we're going to get scored on" sort of way, but he's sooo easy to play against in a "I hope he's defending in the 3rd period" sort of way. Never saw that guy low in his zone if it meant he didn't get the puck with speed, cheating for offense nonstop. Karlsson started putting up points once his team was eliminated. Jamie Benn had a great season scoring 36 goals....more than 1/3 of which were after they were eliminated in the last 2 weeks. Where was that when it was needed? Color me skeptical on stat padders.

Locker Cleanout Monday: Latest NHL rumours, reports - Sportsnet.ca

Some interesting stuff in this article , esp some of the embedded tweets.
I think the Ryan OReilly quote is interesting, if that’s true, he’d be another top center on the market

-Kovulchuk going to sign with Rangers for 2 or 3 yrs. Rangers have 7 draft picks in the first 3 rounds. Is signing Kovy a sign that they are going to quicken their rebuild? Might they use some of them to get an NHL ready player ? Article mentions Taveres and Erik Karlsson as possible targets

-new Rags coach, GM says he's eyeing 5 to 10 candidates, for a coach with a fresh outlook. I know Jim Montgomery's name (as far as AHL coaches) has been out there before and he's pretty highly thought of, as is Sheldon Keefe whose been great for the Marlies the last 3 years.

Tippett is out there and Trotz is available and should move on from DC. Paul McLean should be looking for a gig. New GM in Carolina and the owners wanting to move in new direction might mean Peters will get canned, (although given his history with the Redwings, they might grab him in that happens) COuld be Eakins gets another shot.

Rangers won't be the only vacancy, there will be more

If Buffalo is willing to retain some of that hideous contract, Ryan O'Reilly is a good player. I would love to see him on the Kings roster next season.

They'd have to retain a ton, 7.5 million cap hit, they'd have to get it to 4.0 to make it worthwhile I would think

I would take him at 5, assuming Doughty's contract is done.

I think if you did that, you'd have to move a Martinez or Muzzin to make everyone's contract work,

Kopitar - 10 Million
Doughty - 9-10 Million
Brown - 5.8 Million
Quick - 5.8 million
Phanuef - 5.2 million
Carter - 5.2 Million
OReilly - 5 million

That's 47 million right there with 7 players, if you don't move another contract, you are gonna be stuck,
